250 is OK isn't it

Too bad about loosing your 650! That doesn't seem to be a problem here in my part of the world. Since there are so very few motorscooters, the thiefs like to steal the "rice rockets" and part them out.

I know what you mean with the smaller size scooters. I used to own a Riva 180 (Yamaha) and it was great in the city. After riding the Burgman 650 I decided to get the 400 and I would guess your 250 would be similar in dimensions. I thought the 250 was discontinued.

We only have the 650 and 400 so I'm not sure how well a 250 would fit in with the mix. Timothy

From what I read on (I think it was feet forward forum) interview with designers that 400 frame is thicker and that is about all (except bigger mtr etc)

I don't think the 250 is discontinued it my have not sold as well and so removed it from your region.

We have 2 levels of m/cycle liscence 1 - up to 250cc & 2 - open class 250cc up, could be why we only have 250 & 650

And my 650 was only # 7 sold in my state. (W.A.)

It's a matter of fact...i just bought a Suzuki Burgman AN250 '03 in my country (italy)...and they start to sell it just few months ago...

By the way...do you know if there is some shop online where to buy the rear spoiler that "our" scooter have in japan?

But you loose your back rest with it.

I do like the side leg visors.

250 Not discontinued

The 250 will never be discontinnued.

Over here in Japan the 250 big scooter market has all but killed the conventional 250/400cc bike market. The 250cc displacement is significant as it represents the bottom step in the licensing catagories over here (250/400/unlimited) and also allows the machien to be exempt from an vehicle inspections - which makes them very cheap to run.

The 400 is still the only 400 single engine scoot available in Japan, and was for a long time the biggest engined scooter in the world. Ofcourse, in the early part of this decade Yamaha and Honda brought out their twin cylinder TMax and SilverWings of 500 and 600cc respectively but niether brought out a 400. Recently, Honda unveiled a SilverWing 400, but it's far too heavy (220kgs) to show any performance benefit over the 250 single engined NSS250 (159kgs) - that I also own.

Rumour has it that Honda will replace the SilverWing 400 (hasn't sold very well) with an NSS400 single (the 250 has sold very well, and will feature a similar transmission system to the AN650 with manual mode) and will replace the 600 (sold well, but had the handlebar fiasco) with a 750 to compete with the AN650 head on.

In short, at the moment the AN400 is still the king of the "all-rounder/commuter" big scooters, the AN650 - that I also own - is for the time being in a "class of one" to borrow their Japanese marketing babble.

The standard 250 model has a spoiler, the 400 a passenger backrest. Both have silver wheels.
The 250 has clear indicators, the 400 orange coloured indicators.

The Type S models have black wheels, forks and a smoked effect to the exhaust casing, as well as smoked indicator lenses. They have a spoiler - no passenger backrest.

I wouldn't be afraid to order anything you can't get in Italy direct from Japan - they are decent people and will not mess you around. If they say they can do it, they do it.

That 250 looks like a great scooter. I can see a range of benefits over the 650 depending on your needs. Too bad they're not available in Canada.

I just got a AN250 in TW with passenger backrest, that's standard equipment here, spoiler needs to add $ to have.

That's a really nice bike.

Rod, don't you have the Honda Reflex in Canada? It will do about anything the 400 will do except for top speed. Had one, loved it, just wanted bit more speed for extended interstate rides.

 

I owned a 250 Skywave for 4 months before trading it in for the 400.I never had any problems with it.Great fuel economy and a good preformer.I just wanted a bit more power for the hills and overtaking which I found a litte hard on the 250 when out in the countryside and on the Japanese highways.

Mind you.Im a bit of a maniac on the bike.I like to be in control at all times.The 250 is a great bike and suffciant for Touring long distances and fantastic for the city
