Need a security chain/lock for the 650

I would like recommendations on a lock and chain for securing the Burgman 650. I was looking at the 'New York Noose' by Kryptonite, but I am sure there would be cheaper alternatives.

(Sometimes product recommendations from fellow riders are preferable to sales pitches from websites and stores!)

Comments welcomed.

It all depends on what you hope to accomplish, plenty of commercial stuff out there, some good and some not so great. Most of their security claims can sometimes be countered/defeated very easily.

You can also make your own by going to your favorite home improvement center and buying some chain along with a very good lock. You can also fabricate your own cale/loop for next to nothing by choosing a good grade cable that's very hard to cut.

I've heard one of the best security devices is to use a cover. It doesn't seem like much, but apparently having a motorcycle covered deters a lot of theft and vandalism.

Here's a YouTube video that shows a test of some highly rated motorcycle chains. It was interesting to see how quickly the top quality chains could be defeated.
Various Sold Secure and Thatcham chains chopped. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VC3hFr8p2ck

I've thought about what I'd do if I came across the guy(s) big enough to pick up even a Burgman 400. Dry, I think it weighs 440 lbs. I think if I came across them, I'd just stand out of the way.

If you are looking for quality chain/lock that cannot be cropped and not price ... then I would suggest http://www.almax-security-chains.co.uk Immobiliser Series III or IV.

+5 (is it ok to agree that many times with someone you're not married to or courting?? :eek:ccasion5: )

At over 600#, I'm standing out of the way of BOTH guys, and if it's just one... I'm giving him the title, registration, and the payment book!

Buy a good Disc Brake lock and cover it. Save yourself the $$$ of a chain or cable. A torch and hammer breaks any chain in minutes and time cuts any cable, but a bar of metal through the front wheel, your standard ignition lock plate (cover), and the sheer weight of the Burg is more than discouragement, it's Mission Impossible 4 !!
