Marc Parnes wheel balancer -- anyone use this?

I have a Marc Parnes wheel balancer that I used on my pre-Burgman BMWs. It was small and worked very well on several models. The trick on some BMWs was to have the right wheel adapters. If anyone has used one of these balancers, I'd like to know if you had to get anything special other than the conical adapters of the universal model shown for most Suzuki motorcycles -- see http://www.marcparnes.com/Suzuki_Motorc ... lancer.htm for pictures and description.

there is nothing special about the Marc Parnes balancers, as long as you get the right diameter rod for your wheels, they will do the job.

You can also build your own for next to nothing...[attachment=0:1l4elpna]motorcycle wheel balancer 01.jpg[/attachment:1l4elpna]

LeDude: where did you get the rollers for your DIY'er stand? Are they roller bearing type? I used to balance cycle wheels at a small BMW dealer in MD on a factory stand and the main thing was the roller bearing wheels. Never had any comeback on them either. Have been having them done by a dealer, but might want to make a stand just in case. :)

those are simple rollers that are used in closet doors etc... you can try something else that does the same thing (small roller bearings, used in roller blades, they work as well)... they work rather well, no resistence built into them, they allow the rod/wheel to spin freely... the aluminum brakcets are just 90 degree pieces or aluminum edging cut to size, you can find the stuff/parts at any hardware store like HomeDepot, Lowes, ACE ...

Marc's comes highly rated by WebBikeWorld, read the review here.

I have the other one they love, the Rod Neff balancer (I have the model that can be disassembled to take-up less room when stored). I used it to balance wheels on my PC800, and frankly I was better at it than Milpitas Honda. ;-p

It looks like Marc's design is similar to Rod's, same super-sensitive setup, only without the stand that Rod's comes with (kinda like Rod's Minibalancer). In my garage the stand is a necessity, but for many with more stuff around to DIY the stand (I don't have that option), Marc's is certainlly appealing.

Unfortunately, it looks like something happened to Rod on 7/30/08 (here's his site), so he's forwarding peope to Marc Parnes, which says alot in my book.
