A quick question... although I have two sets of keys - one at home and one on my person- I'd like to know what the solution is for a rider who loses a set of keys while traveling. Thanks in advance.

I have several extra keys to my bike, including the 2nd one w/the key code tag (this key stays at home). I have one hidden on the bike and I also carry a spare in my pants pocket or on a belt loop clip.

One time, I lost a key a key while traveling but I had a spare with me and I was able to keep riding. I did search for the key ring with the lost one because I had a house key on it but I never found it.

I always have my Givi top case on the bike while traveling. The key to the topcase is on a ring which has a clip that I can attach to my pants belt loop. That key ring also has a bike key on it. And I carry an extra Givi key in my underseat storage in case I lose the one on my belt loop.

Hope this helps.

Well, here's my (our) solution when travelling.

If I'm travelling alone, I have a spare scooter key on my house-key ring, which is always in my pocket and never used. I keep the Scoot key on a caribiner that I clip to my belt when I'm off the bike.

When travelling with a group like we do on multi-day or multi-week rides we use a slightly different system. At the ride start, each of us gives a spare key to one of the other riders. Each of us then is carrying a spare key for someone else's bike. This way we're all covered by someone else. It would take a double-failure at the same time to get us into trouble.

So, that's what we do.

When traveling, I bring two sets of keys. One set is attached to the inside of my jacket with a carabiner and is only removed if I lose the first set.

Leaving the 2nd set at home isn't a huge improvement over not having a 2nd set at all, as it can still leave you stranded for a couple of days. Example: lose your keys Friday night and Monday is a holiday. You may not get your 2nd keys sent to you until Wednesday!

Storing extra keys somewhere is not in my mindset. Where I grew up you locked all your doors and windows at night. I'm very security minded and stashing an extra key somewhere that's accessible to anyone that feel like looking for it is a risk. Calculated maybe, but a risk none the less.

If I ever have the thought of taking an extra key on a multi day ride, it will be stashed in my scoot somewhere that is locked but can be breached if needed. I'd rather replace my glove box when i get home than hide one where it is easily accessible.

I have several extra keys. Besides the one I normally use, I keep one stashed on the scooter, one in my left pocket & one at home. Most importantly is that EACH key is on it's own small key ring with a small key FOB TAG that has my name and phone number on it.
And it has actually worked before, as I was buying groceries, as I headed out to my car, the scooter key slipped out of my pocket as I pulled my car keys out of my pocket. My phone rang as I was just a short way down the road. I was called by the security guard when my key was found on the floor. This is really huge, so just imagine if you lost your key and someone finds it, what do you think they will do? Scratch their head and say "I wonder who this belongs to" OR Hey, it has a phone number on it, lets call!
You're Welcome

I always carry two sets - one stays in my pocket ...the other for riding ....a third stays home.

Paid off once.

Could NOT find keys after an overnight.

Finally gave up and headed home on the spare key - stopped for gas....heard a clink as I got off the bike. Looked around ...nothing ...walked to the gas . "clink"...hey'd fallen inside the lining of my riding pants

The outer pants allow me to reach my inner pants but somehow the keys didn't make it and ended inside the lining at the cuff.

Better outcome than being stuck somewhere part way through a ride.
