I am wondering if any of you out there might know what the cause of this problem might be: the idle speed on my 1993 Burgie 400 varies during a ride for no apparent reason. It might idle at 1600-1800, or it might be as low as 800-1000. Other times it might be 2000... This can happen during the course of a single ride.
It doesn't seem like it's dependent on a particular type of gas (I run supreme gas), or whether it's warming up or has been run for a while, etc.
My husband checked the valve clearances recently, and the exhaust valves were just barely out of the recommended tolerance- he didn't want to change them, since some postings here seem to indicate that they might tighten up with usage (we have about 5,000 miles on it)
Do you think this might be a cause of the changing idle? :?:
Any other ideas  or explanations :!:
Thanks in advance...
