How does the private messaging system work?

I've sent a few pm already, but some seem to sit in my outbox. Are these messages reviewed before they're sent out? How do I get messages in my outbox to be sent out? Thanks.

They remain in your outbox until the user you sent them to logs on and reads them.

They stay in the out box until the the person who it went to opens it up.
The message then goes to the sent box.

Think of the sent box as a confirmation the recipient opened it.

Just keep in mind that not everyone checks this website
everyday....some are only able to get around to it a couple
of times a week...& then may not notice the MESSAGES note
at the top of the Forums page.
So, your message might sit in your Out Box for a couple of days.
I had a message sit for over a week...that rider was out of
town on vacation...I didn't know it.

Oh.

Thanks.

Longest sitting message I've ever had in my outbox was ~ 3 months, then i deleted it as I figured the user was no longer active

I've got three sitting there from 5 months ago when I did some digging in the archives for CVT issues. I'm trying to get the people that posted they had a problem, but never posted the solution, to follow up and let us know what happened. Sigh...

A couple of suggestions about private messages...

To make sure you see that you have new private message, go into the User Control Panel, click the Board Preferences tab at the top, and make sure Notify me on new private messages is set to 'Yes'. I also have Pop up window on new private message set to 'Yes' so a popup is displayed anytime there is a new private message. If you use a popup-blocker, you will need to allow (whitelist) the BurgmanUSA.com domain to display popups.

Something that was just implemented lately and has been under testing is to allow you to receive notifications via the Jabber instant messaging system. You can set in your profile to use email, Jabber, or both. The advantage to using Jabber is that you get a notification about the PM in about a second when a new PM arrives.

WHAT? What do you mean that not everyone checks this website every day?!?!? How can that be possible? :D

SOME folks are actually able to check it twice a day...

that makes up for those that aren't able to check it every day...
