So question for the group. When you guys are checking your oil level, do you remove the dipstick, clean it off, them FULLY screw it back in and take it back out to check your level, or are you just pushing it in to the threads and checking it from there? The manual doesn't specify for the '99 to '06 models.

The right way is to unscrew it, wipe it and just insert it at the top of the hole. Do not screw it down to check.

It should be done on the wheels and held straight/vertical, if you do it alone a small bubble level across seat helps. practice a few times to raise to level point slowly, don't go over, bad reading. A good copy/paste/touched up, from old thread.

1. Check with the Engine Cold.
2. On a Level Surface.
3. Use the Side Kickstand.
4. Remove and Clean Dip Stick.
5. Insert back in hole without threading it into the hole.
6. Put the scooter in a Vertical Position for a moment.
7. Return to Side Kickstand.
8. Remove Dip Stick and Check Oil.
9. Level should be in middle of range. Cold.
10. Service as Required, Re-Install Dipstick.

After you do it correctly , place scooter on center stand/level surface, notice/mental note or mark position with a permanent sharpie/paint, etc. it makes it easier to check and at oil changes, etc.

We have gone around and around on this many times. The FEW ounces of oil differences when checking on the wheels held upright or on the Center stand amounts to nothing to worry about.

Like zrx said, TOP it off at the " FULL MARK " once doing the on the tires on level ground while balancing the bike. Then put it on the center stand, wipe the dipstick clean and retest. Then scribe a mark at the level on the dip stick and it will be exact every time.
