CD in Glove Box?

Has anyone here tried putting a CD player inside the glove compartment?
It seems like it would be an easier installation than under the seat, but I'm a little concerned about heat buildup.
I was also considering putting the speakers in the dash compartments and popping the lids up when I need more volume on the go.

May be you consider a MP3 Player option, it.s vibration trouble free and more heat resistant than a CD Player.
The MP3 is also moving parts free and the electrical demand is negligible if using eletrical bike source. It has a long endurance even using its own batteries, not to mention the lower weight and dimension.

I highly recommend the MP3 player, plus there is NO need for an actual installation. But if you MUST have a CD player, the heat really isn't an issue if you compare what they are exposed to from the engine of a car, heating ducts, or even from sitting in the sun. Besides that I don't think there would be enough room for a regualr car sized CD player without doing some plastic cutting.

I use an Ipod and a small FM reciever radio that I picked up at the Discovery Store for 10 bucks. I prefer the ear buds to everyone having to listen to my music as I am going down the road or stopped at a light. I always used the headset on my Goldwing for that very reason. I keep the volume at a comfortable level and can still here traffic and the other outside noises important to safety.

If that doesn't work for you I would check into a radio for a Honda Pacific Coast or Goldwing. They are small, draw few amps and are designed for motorcycle use.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Single DIN fits in the pre 07 400s glove box on the left hand side...no cutting required I've no idea about the 07 and up models. I agree on the MP3 though...smaller, less power usage, holds more music (than a CD), doesn't need to be mounted.

As for heat, you will get more under the seat than in that glove box.

Chris

Edit: The routing of all the wiring is a different issue. No cutting would be required to get the unit to fit in that space.

That's exactly what I'm planning to install on my 400 2005. I have a marine Pyle radio. The only big problem is that the radio will not fit in glovebox. I'm planning making modifications(cutting, fiberglass work, some kind of "suspension") to support the radio inside the glovebox. For heat problems, I think that under the seat location will built more heat. Also, I'm palnning to install a "mesh" in front of speakers, so if I need to put something small in those compartments, I can still use them.

P.D. When I get home today, I will double check if the radio fits or not without cutting the glovebox.

Chris, I neglected to see that the question was in reference to a 400, my answer was directed towards 650s.

I was actually thinking of some "cheap" (nothing on a biike is cheap!) helmet speakers and a portable CD player while I'm planning the finished stereo. Computer type stuff intimidates me, so it's easier to leave the music on the CD than figure out how to transfer it, and it's easier to change the playlist by swapping out CDs now and then.
I have thought of grabbing the Kenwood from a Helix, but they run $400 if you can find one on E-Bay. And don't play CDs. :D
