2008 AN 400 backrest removal

I found the two screws discussed elsewhere, but the backrest would not slide all the way out after removing them. I have searched the area for any other screws but have found none.

There is a locking mechanism reached next to the light. Must I remove the light and take that mechanism apart. I'm stymied.

Ed,
There are two very small Phillips head screws, one in each leg. if both these screws are removed, all you should have to do is squeeze the adjustment lever that is under the seat while sliding out the butt-rest. there is no need to remove anything else.[attachment=0:2vybm1sb]buttrest screws.jpg[/attachment:2vybm1sb] You can see the small holes where the screws are and the small silver handle in the front left which is the adjustment lever. This is on my 650, I believe the 400 is the same.

I have an 08 400.
The buttstop is mounted to a plate that has 2 hollow metal tubes attached
that go under the seat. At the end of those metal tubes, there is a sheet-metal
screw, that is screwed into the tube. That screw has to be removed.

You have to retract the buttstop all the way to see the screw heads though the holes at the end of the metal tubes. By the way, use the right phillips screw driver with plenty of elbow grease. A JIS screwdriver bit is recommended since this is Japanese.

Thats what we're here for Ed. I don't believe the bag of tools screwdriver is going to do it. Who knows...you may get lucky. For me, I had to take mine to a local mechanic and he removed with ease.

For the future, I've attached a pic of where the screws are. It's a never ending question with only discriptive answers. So, here it is.

Thanks, Colossal and everyone! I couldn't find those screws, no way. :x Got the thing off and am enjoying the extra room in the saddle.
