Well, with all these clutch postings, I decided to check out my cvt area and see how I am doing. Well, to my surprise, my clutch shoes are paper thin. I did notice some "blue" marks around edge of clutch housing too. Anyone know what I need to order when doing my first clutch replacement, i.e., just a new clutch (I am going with the OEM)? Thanks for the help.

At a minimum a new clutch (around $150 from one site I use). Since there were problems with the original 2007 clutch you might want to find out which one Suzuki has replaced it with (new part number). You'll also need a very large socket to remove the nut on the clutch assembly itself. Just be warned, that thing is spring loades to have your feet on it to keep it from popping up. C-clamps are an option but I don't like them.

Isn't there a needle bearing behind the clutch that should be replaced at the same time? I seem to recall posts about that bearing going bad and making noise.

Thanks RnadyT for the new clutch shoe number. There are a lot of bearings listed, anyone know which bearing is the needle bearing? I don't mind relacing it now when I have everything apart. Thanks.

Hi macburg The large socket that you will need to replace the clutch is a 2 1/8 in. 3/4 in drive Craftsman #93217
12 point, or equivalent. I bought one to use when i replaced the clutch on my K7 400. I had similar mileage on my
clutch and the shoes were down way below suggested replacement, about heavy paper thickness. If you are getting OEM
replacement clutch check the fit of the new unit on the carrier you may find that it needs a wee bit of internal filing
to let it slip on a bit easier. There are some good pictures in the DIY section of the burgie blog that shows micburgsma
using his feet to take the tension off the big spring before taking the old clutch off, don,t laugh it works. If you have access to a 1/2to 3/4 adapter youy could use a 1/2 inch drive air impact gun or even a 12 volt electric gun
Hope this helps, drive safe

Thanks Luigi. That is exactly what mine looks like - heavy paper thickness. When you say "internal filing" are you saying to sand down the clutch shoe if it is too tight??

It's the opening in the clutch that slips over the threads when you put it on.

I can tell you that the 08-09 clutch will work in the 07 part # 21501-05H20 as that's what I used to replace mine. The 08-09 ones have 5 shoes compaired to the 3 that the 07 used. Put a post out that you are looking for a clutch you might find someone that will sell there slightly used one as I did. Thanks happytech

Thanks Desert Rat. I already ordered the OEM part for the '07. I wish I had known about your experience first though. I always thought it might work better with more shoes.
