A baseball bat and baseball cost $1.10
The bat costs $1 more than the ball.
How much did the ball cost?

PM me with your answer and I will post the first correct answer.

A nickle must be correct - my wife agrees with that answer. Her logic makes sense but it still doesn't seem right - where's my beer - oh wait, I can't drink. :eek:ccasion5:

It's got to be 5 cents. That way, at $1.05, the bat is $1 more than the ball. (is a nickel 5 cents?)
I agree . It's rather like the sales gimmicks. Say something cost 100, and is reduced in the sales by 50% and then further reduced by 10%, you would think you are getting 60% discount. But you are not; it's 55%

Real simple just do a search. "A baseball bat and baseball cost $1.10"

Why is five cents called a nickel?

Prior to introduction of the nickel, five-cent pieces were very small silver coins called half dimes. Due to shortages of silver during and after the American Civil War, an alternative metal was needed for five-cent coinage, and the copper–nickel alloy still in use today was selected.

I think that is more interesting than the problem.

Sorry :blackeye:

I got very busy.

According to the time stamps, Buffalo won.
He is also the only one who followed the rules.

The vast majority of Ivy League College students answered 10 cents, (a dime).

Good math skills to all who got it correct.
Thank your math teacher.
