Hi everyone I'm new to the forums. I just sold My 1997 Honda Valkyrie 2 months ago that I had owned for the past 10 years. Now I'm thinking about getting a newer Burgman Mega scooter.

I've been looking on Craigs list and Ebay. Just went to the dealership here in Waukesha WI. they have a 2012 Moon Grey 650 excecutive for $7500.00 not including the $900.00 customer cash what do you think of this price or is it worth it to jump up to a 2013 for 1500.00 more?

How do you like your Burgmam 650. I've also considered the Silverwing and the Tmax but keep coming back to the Burgman Thanks guys.

1st, welcome, and what part of the state are you located?

How many miles are on the '12, or is it new?

I personally prefer the grey over the white, but I hear good things about the '13.

I guess after 10 yrs. and 40,000 miles with the same bike, that answers your other question.

Thank You for the welcome.I live in Waukesha WI. Scoot is new. I like the gray also, from the web sight it looks like the 2013 is only available in white. The Valkyrie was becoming to cumbersome to just hope on and go I have been reading about the shifting improvements on the 2013 models I just wonder if its that much of a improvement.

Welcome to BUSA, first of all.... I happen to own both a Honda Goldwing GL1800...and.a Burgman 400 and find myself using the 400 more often than the 1800...... WHY.?????? Because it is a 100% blast to ride......!! You will really enjoy the 650.......

Welcome to the forum. :hello2:

You have asked a question that is virtually impossible for anyone else to answer for you.

If we assume then that you are sold on the idea of owning and riding a Burgman 650 and that colour is not a do or die issue.

The 2013 is a major redesign of the important elements of this bike and early user reports and reviews are positively encouraging. However, it boils down to how important that $1500 is to you and what other calls there are on that slice of cash.

If you are comfortable ask the dealer to work with you to close the gap to incentivise you spending more money with him.;)

From what I've been reading, RE "shifting", they lowered the RPM at cruise to allow for better fuel mileage, and also decreased the engine braking.

Whichever one you choose, using the throttle like a rheostat works best.:)

As for comparisons with other maxi scooters, there are none.

The 650 Burgman is actually a superb long distance touring machine.

The others aren't.

You'll need to put a Corbin seat on it to realize it's full ergonomic potential,..maybe a aftermarket windshield,..but that's about it.

With the low resale and the availability of like new low mileage used ones, I think a pre-owned unit might be a better choice if you decide on a 2012. I bought a spotless 09 with a lot of farkles for a good price. Everyone thinks it is new and only me and my riding friends know better. The changes through the later years have been minimal.

I found mine about 500 miles from me but it was well worth the time and expense to go and get it. The owner originally bought it in New York with 100 miles on it and brought it back to Virginia. The prior 400 I had was purchased from a man in Tennessee who originally picked it up in Mississippi with almost no miles on it.

welcome to the forum, the 650 will be a very nice ride if you get one, you will be amazed by its versatility despite a few shortcomings.

as for the 2012 vs 2013 choice, putting aside the price difference, it really comes down to a few things:

- physical appearance, the 2013 was totally redesigned on the outside, new tupperware and styling.

- mechanical differences, the 2013 has had its clutch tweaked and a few other mods that are supposed to make it more efficient when it comes to fuel economy and hopefully solve a few mechanical problems that have plagued past models.

I wasn't crazy about the 2013 when I first saw its pictures, but it has grown on me after I saw it in the flesh.

You lose a bit of under the seat storage with the 2013.

you should try and get a test ride on both before making up your mind.

Personally I would buy a clean 2nd hand 650. There are a still a few 09 left overs here and there at considerable discounts.

good luck....

Valkyrie, I am on my third one. First one went to 54,000 before I made a bad choice of oil for the transmission. Second one made it to 19,000 and met a Red Chevy Pickup truck at 35+ MPH and lost. Third one is currently at about 43,000 miles. I most likely will replace it with another one day or a Honda CTX700 DCT automatic.
