All things considered I think you would like the 2012 model better. A friend of mine has the 2013 and hates the placement of the mirrors, the smaller under seat storage, and the price difference if you're buying new.

That's a good point. Corse the 2013 is suppose to have some improvements in mileage and friction reduction.

That and the 2013 has different styling that some folks find more attractive. Reports from those that have traded their older models on the 2013+ models seem to indicate a 4 to 6 mpg improvement in mileage and an easier bike to push around with your feet.

2013 or not

Having a 2013 (3000 miles since new) and having had pre-2013s, I would not go back......2013/14 is a much better machine in my view.......
Always ride safely and keep your airspeed under control.

What about the engine braking? I heard that has been significantly reduced.

I haven't ridden the 2013, but I love the engine braking on my older model as I ride twisties every weekend.

Yes. It is much less. We had an 08 650, sold it and later bought a 2013 650. Its much easier to move around and it get better milage. Last tank I got 60.3 mpg. It varies depending on wind, speed etc, but it averages in the high 50s to low 60s. I like the new gauges better also. JMHO.

Regarding the engine braking. It is also a lot less. It feels more like a standard motorcycle now when you let off the throttle.
