last year the bike,a 2002 model ,slipped on gravel on a road in Scotland..the engine kept going till switched off and it lost some of the casing below the legshields on the right side.I ended up in hospital for a day! lol
I then had to drive it home, but after 340 miles, in some atrocious weather ,it made a funny noise then the engine stopped. It had been running fine before then and I had checked and and topped up the engine oil before i started. As i awaited a repair man a large pool of oil spread out from under the breather onto the road.
Any way, home and even in front garden oil was present..but i havent been able to work on bike due to a huge number of things including recovering and really awful weather all last summer .
When you insert the key and pressed the starter button there was defeaning silence(as it was when it first broke down)
So the help..where do i start in finding the cause...I suspect the engine has gone......but how can i test? On a motorbike i can check for seizing by turning the wheel..not so easy when scooter has variable gears? If the engine as gone its off for repairs or spares.........but it might be something else.
I have a limited space in front garden to strip it down.....i wish it was a garage
All the lights and indicators seem to work.....but i get no thud off the starter......would for example the opening of the casing on the underside due to the accident allow water ingression and so short something?Or the water to get into an intake and so into the engine?
i would appreciate your views.....at the age of the machine, in good condition, they are worth about 1500 UK pounds...at the moment about £250 as spares with no engine going!
thanks folks
