I see that there are "BOTS"............what the hell is a bot? and what do they do?

They are actually virtual guests/computer generated Lurkers gathering info for the pop up ads or other mischievous activities.

A bot is for instance Google Webcrawler scanning through posts.

A BOT is short for ROBOT....the searcher link from
other web search engines, that use this method of linking people
who enter certain 'clue' words in their website, to this website.
Google, Yahoo, AOL, & many others. On those sites, a user
might enter the word BURGMAN.....& that browser will link that search
over to this website. That's one of the ways we pick up new 'members'.
Riders that had no idea that this website exists, but are linked
over here from other websites.

Bots can also be used by site admins to redflag users who post inappropriate content such as vulgarity, pornography or who starts flame wars just to stir the pot. Typically the admin would issue one warning to the offender and a second infraction would result in their user name or IP being banned from the site. Bots are not necessarily a bad thing...
