Dear Community Members,

We are excited to announce that we are live on our new forum platform! We’ve worked hard over the last several months with a leading design and product firm to deliver a cleaner, faster and more engaging experience for you. Our goal is to provide modern design and technology to make the site run faster, smoother and more reliably. All of the valuable content within the community is still here, even though the layout may look different.

A Consistent Experience Across All Devices
The site is optimized for all screen sizes, including mobile. All features are available and ready to use on all devices.

Speed and Reliability Are Key
No one should have to wait for information. This site has been built to be much faster and more reliable, period.

New Homepage Experience
Your home page now features the most active forums, trending discussions, featured showcases, and top contributing members. This will help keep you up to date on what’s happening in your community and eventually become a very personalized experience for our members with all the great content you love surfaced effortlessly for you.

Search
We have introduced new search algorithms, powered by an industry-leading AI platform, that will help you find information faster. We plan to roll out new features to continue improving search, and to power many additional areas of the forum.

Due to the volume of content, our search platform may take some time to complete indexing. During this process, you may see a limited number of posts until indexing has been completed. We appreciate your patience.

Easy to Use and Navigate
We have made the design clean and simple to use. Near the upper right-hand corner of the community, you will see navigation icons.

The first icon is for what’s new on the site.

Clicking on it, by default, will take you to new unread posts. On that page, you can click on additional tabs as well, such as Popular, if you prefer to view active topics.

Clicking the list icon next to “NEW” will bring you to the full forum listing.

You can also navigate by clicking the 3 vertical dots.

Clicking on your avatar will give you a drop-down menu for all things related to your account.

Dark Mode
We have introduced Dark Mode. One of our favorite features allows you to access the site with a power-saving, and easier on the eyes dark mode. You can access it in the drop-down menu under the 3 vertical dots.

Save Bookmarks
Now you can save your favorite discussion threads and posts! Bookmarks are a handy way to remember and easily find great content or stuff you want to read later.

We also wanted to make it easier for new users to understand the lingo of forums. We have cleaned up various language to more commonly recognized phrases including:
  • Following - Thread subscriptions, and Watched are now known as Following
  • Conversations – Private Messages or PMs are now conversations and can be accessed from the user avatar drop-down in the main navigation
  • Showcase – Showcase is designed for users to "showcase" items/projects through the use of uploaded images, text descriptions and custom content categories. It’s a way to visually and textually provide detailed information on the content you wish to share. The showcase would be similar to a catalog, whereas the gallery would be like a photo album. It can be accessed from the drop-down menu with the 3 dots.
These are just a few of the great new functions and features to try on the site. Take a tour and look around! If you have any questions, please check out the HELP section for some quick FAQs about the new platform - Help Section

Please let us know what you think about the new experience. Your feedback is important to us.

Thank you all for your support during this amazing journey!

I will be here during your transition to the new platform, to help with any questions, help with navigation or how to do things, and to listen to your feedback so please don't hesitate to holler at me. I want to help.

I do want to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Cricket. When I was born, my father told his friends I was the ugliest baby he had ever seen, and that I sounded just like a cricket (I was born with the hiccups.) so yes, I have been Cricket for 58 years now. I live just outside of San Antonio, Texas. I spend most of my time off out in nature and exploring the back roads. During late autumn when it starts to finally cool down, I disappear from the world for a bit for camping trips and hiking.

Please don't be afraid to explore and test out things to see how they work on the site.

Although you can certainly use the "insert image" icon to upload an image to your post, you can also just drag and drop it to the text editor or even copy/paste it into there!
89494

You can easily share videos just by adding the URL directly into the text editor!

Gif links from sites like giphy.com will display automatically just by adding the gif URL directly in the text editor. Try it!

I am also a huge fan of the dark mode for the community. What is your favorite feature?

We will be seeing weekly updates (approximately) to the site which are largely based on community feedback so we absolutely want to hear your feedback!

I have worked with VerticalScope for 5 years but I have worked with forum communities for closer to two decades. I won't always know the answers to your questions, but I can find someone who does, as needed. ;)

I noticed our profile pictures are a bit fuzzy. Is this due to the size requirements of the old forum? Should we download a new picture? Everything else looks good.

Thanks for explaining some of the new features.
Let me know if I can help you find anything. :)

Yes, if the image was small on the old site, you may need to upload a new one that is at least 400 x 400 pixels for the best results.

How To Change/Update Avatar

Click on your avatar near the upper right-hand corner of the site and select “account settings” from the drop-down menu.

That will bring you to the account details page.

Once you click on your avatar, then click to choose your file.

Make sure to click “okay” afterward.

In general I like the new site. Only issue is that all the pictures that were in my gallery from the old site are missing. There is still a link to them in my signature but when you go to it the message says the site cannot be found. I can't find the pictures anywhere in the new gallery or showcase. The link is https://burgmanusa.com/gallery/Buffalo/

There are a number of post that have links to pictures from my gallery that are no longer going to work if these are gone. Many of these were to illustrate issues people were having with there bikes to help them resolve the issues.

Unfortunately, the old gallery was unable to be migrated to the new platform due to some incompatibility issues. They are stored in backup for future work to recover them. I do not yet have an ETA on when this can be resolved.

PLEASE add member location under avatar!
I will pass on your feedback to the team.

In the meantime, you can still see a member's location (if they have added it) by hovering with your cursor) over their avatar within a thread.

Setting Your Location

Click on your avatar, near the upper right-hand corner of the site. Select account settings from the drop-down menu.

On the account settings page, scroll down to location.

As you start typing your city, it will offer you choices appear in the drop-down menu. Click to select the one that displays your location.

If you prefer to only display your state, simply type your state, and then click on it in the drop-down menu.

Within discussion threads, you will see your country flag displayed under your username.

User Location Privacy Settings

Click on your avatar and select Account Settings from the drop-down menu.

Your Account Settings page will open with more options. From the left-side navigation bar, select Privacy.

On your Privacy page, you will see options regarding your location.

Use the drop-down menu to select who can see your location information.

I was going to post that comment too but Jeff beat me to it.
Also what bike the member has.

This info is usable when a member posts a question for an issue. With the location and Bike model we may be able to answer direcly for that model/year/size cc or go over and help.... Its like Cricket lives in San Antonio, TX and if He/She had an issue with his/her Burgman, we have about 5 members within 15 miles that could drop by

We may need to just add it to our signature.

I highly recommend adding it to your signature until the developers work out a solution for us.

Like the new digs fine so far (need much more time working with it to really feel at home).
One thing I was accustomed to on the old version, and also on the other forums I belong to, is an indication of some kind in the thread list that shows what threads I've already replied in. Sometimes that shows as a symbol in front of the thread title (along with the thread starters' avatar) or sometimes, as was here, a very small avatar photo along with the thread starters' avatar.
Is there a setting for that now or can that be added?

When done with all the site modifications I may copy Crickets top post over to the FAQ section and make it a sticky. I'd edit out the personal highlites.

Depending on your preference settings, this can be accomplished.

Step One: Check your preference settings by clicking on your account settings under your avatar near the upper right hand side of the community.

That will bring you to a new page with some left-side navigation. Select preferences.

3496

Step 2: Make sure you have a checkmark in "Automatically watch content you interact with" and then click save.
3497

Step 3: Now when you check popular or new posts you will see an "eye" under the title area.
3498

It will also show on the thread list within a forum section.
3499

Try it and let me know if it works for you.

OK, got a phone call from a member asking what happened to the "View First Unread Post" feature.

Currently it seems we open a thread and have to scroll down to get to the new posts.

And as of this EDIT time, they have fixed this issue. ;)

Test post here. I verified the settings to indicate what threads I've contributed to and saved those settings per post 17 above. The mentioned eye next to the thread title does not show so checking if this is a cached bit of data that starts over from now rather than historical data that was carried over. This is my first post in a thread since I enabled those settings and right now the only eye I see in any thread list relates to how many views a thread has... which does seem to be carried over from pre-update.
89506

The first thread here I have contributed to previously to my settings change. The second thread I have not contributed to yet.

Update: It does seem to be a data point that starts from scratch after the update and after the setting is saved
