Hello there,

I was wondering if anyone has done their tappets on the 400? Here in Canada the manual is not available for the 2004 model (Ronayers doesn't have it as well but they have the 2003 model). Is is easy? Do you have to take off alot of panels? Doesn't the fuel injection manifold have to be removed? I intend on doing all my own maintenance. Timothy

Hi Tim....

I adjusted mine....the adjustment is easy, its the dismantling of the
body thats a booger !! The adjustmnent would also be the same as
the 03 models/manual. It took maybe 4 times longer to dis-assemble
and re-assemble than it did to set the valves, which incidentally were
not very far off in the first place. Altogether, about a 2 to 2and1/2
hour job. I did mine at 750 miles. Hope this helps....

How often do you have to adjust the valves on the 400? I know the 650 says every 15,000 but they are shims under bucket type.

For the 400

Valve clearances are down to be checked at 1000Km (600miles) and every 12000KM (7500miles) thereafter.

This is taken from the 99 model manual and I do not know if there have been revisions for later models. It would be interesting to hear.
