A few comments on the "2005 News Flash" thread:

-- While I certainly respect open discussion on the myriad of topics available to us, my feeling was that nearly 50% of the discussion on that thread dealt with another topic entirely, and not always in a positive manner (i.e., the use of single-word race descriptions with possible negative connotations). Don't get me wrong, the discussion is perfectly legitimate, but it's tone and subject were much more appropiate for "The Cafe" section.
-- My concern is that the responses included a certain amount of (specifically unstated) sarcasm and some disdain for the other person's point of view. New readers and users of the forum, perusing the "2005 NF" thread, would in my opinion come away with a negative feeling about what they just read and perhaps toward the forum in general.
-- A simple solution? Don't censor the discussion, just move it... cut the non-burgman "2005 NF" posts and put them in a new thread in "The Cafe"
-- Perhaps I'm making too much out of the issue, but then again a lot of Burgman forum users are reading that thread.....
-- On a more positive note, everyone have a great day!

I agree...move it, but don't delete it. Also, if anyone should comment on the alleged "offensiveness" of the comment being discussed, it should be someone of Asian decent....which is why I asked my 75% Chinese fellow employee to read this over and see what he thought.

He found none of it offensive, understanding the context of the "J" word in question. Any other "Asians" wanna comment?

Thanks!!!!

Just in case there is any question

From Websters:

Main Entry: Jap
Pronunciation: 'jap
Function: noun or adjective
usually disparaging : JAPANESE

Furthermore, if there is any question, discretion is always advised.

Lastly, this forum is better than that thread. Let's keep it so.

Surgery has been done to the original thread. However since it was the first time I've had to take such action on this forum I bungled up the job. Please no mal practice suits!!!!! I've learned from my mistake and it won't happen again. Hopefully the moderators won't have to attempt to split another thread.

My apologies to all posters who I have affected.
