I feel really stupid but my burgman has developed an alarming backfire on acceleration and drop in power. I thought before I get timing and things checked I'd change the spark plug.
I can't find it........I've taken off the mid cover just under the front of the seat and looked at the engine bay under the seat and all I can see are the air filters. I'm not hugely mechanically minded and I've searched high and low for any pictures of the spark location but they're all for the US burgmans (obviously) and the plug is in a different place (unless I'm missing something fundementally important here)..
My burgman didn't come with the owners manual so if it's in there I haven't got access.
Please help and thanks in advance

Re: Spark plug location on 400x (UK Carb - non fuel injectec

Thanks Buffalo, what you've said sounds feasible. It's entirely possible it's there, I didn't fancy taking the sidepanels off without some kind of definite reason to but it's not a massive job. I've noticed the famous Mitchburgman has done a couple of 03+ vids. So I'll have look and then see what I can do, thanks again for your info.

Re: Spark plug location on 400x (UK Carb - non fuel injectec

I've finally managed to get round to working on the bike. The good news is the plug was fairly easy to get to, the bad news is that it was absolutely fine, however when I had everything open I managed to identify the actual problem. It seems the previous owner didn't have the right size bolt for the ground wire so bodged a washer to trap the 'O' ring and basically left the wire with a bad connection. I've drilled out the bolt and remounted the wire properly and all my problems have vanished.

I just wanted to thank you again for all the sage advice.
