Well I finally make a major change to my burgie and put on some hard cases. The is my first major mod for the bike and given that I have average mechanical skills, I think I did OK. But I will let you just from the below.
Using Kiwi Daves mounts, I had 2 Aprillia hard side cases which I finally figured to secure to the mounts.
Here is the back view:

I used two L brackets holding a U bolt secured to the bottom of the case with a larger L bracket at the top of the case. The one on the non fuel filter side was bolted up tight using hollow steel spacers holding up a plate with a bolt through the middle of it to fill up the groove. Each of these were snugged up to hold it in place.

I used the same bracket and bolt arrangement for the gas fill side with one exception. Instead of the metal spacer, I used a spring to both secure the bolted plate but still allow me to pull the case off easily...found the right compromise of tension and ease of movement.

Here is a side shot of how it looks. The cases are a good color match and the bags look pretty much lke they belong on the bike. I use a cargo net and bungie to keep the cases from rattling back and forth since the L bracket is smaller than the slot and I didn't want to make it difficult to pull the left side bag off.

And here is front view of the bag on the left side.

Been riding with it empty to make sure that there wasn't any issues I had to deal with..about 100+ miles later, I believe we are ready to load the bags. I am bought them cases to hold my tools, air pump, etc to free up the space taken up by that stuff under my seat. The transfer will happen this weekend and after I change the oil in the bike, I will take it out for a spin to see how it handled with the cases loaded.
