Luke Czepiela doing a crazy landing... ...on top of Berj al Arab
Aircraft is a Mike Patey modified Cubcrafters’ Carbon Cub
Reminds me of when British Army Air Corps pilots got clearance to land De Havilland Beavers at a runway they weren’t approaching, so they put down across it instead of along it
For aviation nuts - some tech details on prepping this aircraft, problems, solutions from direct from the pilot and engineer of the aircraft.
(A bit of how and why on Custom landing gear, engine, prop, fuel tank etc.
Boring if you aren’t into technical stuff but has some crazy test flight footage)
Preparing for an airshow somewhere (possibly Farnborough) I once walked alongside a Fieseler Fi 156 Storch and kept pace with it into wind.
Pilot said he did 36 to 40 knots with 40 deg. Flaps - and some days could hover it. Landing roll was about the length of the aircraft
It had WW2 colours but was (I think) a French built Morane Saulnier version built using wartime major components after the war.
Bluebottle, there is an old movie reel clip of a plane flying along and the pilot is shaking the hand of a man standing on a ladder 5 feet off the ground. The ground speed was like 65 MPH and the guy on the ladder was being blown around.
Sorry, forgot to include link to video: in post 2:
