I sit tall in the saddle, and my Givi windshield upgrade was still too short. Shimmed mine up with an 12 mm shim on top, nothing on the bottom.

Worked great, lifted the air a good 2 inches over my helmet, and I can just see over the windshield. If it rains hard, I can slump down and be just behind it. Perfect height and angle for me.

Wondering when folks shim the bottom bolts, does that let air through, and lessen buffeting even more be relieving pressures? I shimmed the top only, very happy with the results. Thanks to LeDude's site and video too! You're awesome dude.

Darn. It doesn't look like shimming is possible on 2003s. The mounting brackets are angled away from each other, so the thicker the shims, the wider the boomerang needs to be to fit the bolts. Even a few washers makes it difficult to remount. I have a Givi windscreen, which may complicate things further.

Flywheel, the 03 to 08's and maybe up to 2012, are all the same. When you shim it, the bolt holes will be off a bit but should still be workable. It is not a 2 minuet job.

Hmm. I tried it before watching Le Dude's video and after, thinking that I could be mistaken. One washer (about 1mm) is about all the shimming I could get away with--the boomerang flexes noticeably. 5mm shims are totally unworkable. Took my time, no rushing. The Givi screen is the only non-stock part, unless the mounts are from a 400, which seems unlikely.

I had to squeeze and manhandle my hardware to get the holes to line back up and screws in with the big shims I made. I think if you're willing to squeeze it a bit and start the screws on one side just a few threads, then the other, you'd be surprised how much shim you can get away with.

I posted my own success here a while ago, owe it all to Ledude.

The 2003 will take washer shims, top and bottom, in varying amounts (some might call the iterative variations you fool around with "tuning") just like my 2005. Get out your round file and hog out those hidden holes. It does look funny afterwards, but nobody seems to call me on it.

I will be inquiring of the nicely machined shims above in my next personal message.
