On the grey plastic between the driver and passenger footrests there is a vent. Does anyone know how to remove this vent grille?

The grill on the right side is the intake for the CVT cooling fan. The one on the left is just a dummy. I'm not sure if they are removable but if so it would be from the back side so you would have to take the floorboard pice off to gain access.

You have to remove the floorboard to get access. They are held on from the backside with pushnuts like these shown below. You'd have to be careful not to break off the molded on plastic pin these push onto. Using a angled dental pick you can usually bend the metal tabs back to get the nut off.
