well today decided to take a little ride ,and was about 12 miles from home ,and had to stop to wait for a passing train with 3 cars ahead of me I was stopped with my feet on the ground when i get hit from behind from an older Chevy Caprice luckily he didn't knock me over, but the hit was hard enough . it did slight damage to the flange around the end of the muffler , and the plastic fender must have just flexed, because the licence plate was bent , and the fender was scuffed , all I can say is Thank God he wasn't going faster , He claims his foot slipped off the brake , I think he was messing with a cell phone and wasn't paying attention . It seems no mater how cautious and aware you try to be ,you can't always prevent the Mishaps .

Glad you were not injured in the incident! You are so right - no matter how cautious you are, you cannot control the stupid or inattentive behavior of others.

I got hit in the rear on my 400 three weeks ago by a nice 84 year old man about a mile and a half from my house. He didn't hit me hard but it knocked me and the bike onto the pavement. I was sore for a few days but it totaled my 08 400. I am currently in negotiations with Allstate (they have no clue on how to handle the claim and are low balling me).

I had a black scooter, a black jacket and a black helmet. My family insisted I get a white helmet, Hi Vis (ugly) jacket and I got a white 650 with Trailblazer Deceleration Warning lights. I feel safer now.

I like white also, unfortunately not much of it shows from the rear. The trailblazers are a good idea.

So happy you are OK.

I almost stop on the center line any more due to all the dip sticks on the road now days. At least I wont be a bumper sandwich.

I wonder if things are this bad in Europe?

The US has gotten so bad in the last few years, they even give cell phones away to people without jobs so they can drive around and chit chat.

I forgot. The PO also put a GIVI top box on the bike with a bunch of LED brake lights on it. Anyone who misses the flashing brake lights on the bike and the LED lights on the box would have to be blind.

I am real nervous at any stop where i am exposed to a rear end collision.

Something I do is to keep my throttle hand at the ready , try to position the bike so i have at least some chance of an emergency exit,be it right or left.

Then i watch the rear view mirrors very closely, when i see the moron approaching I start waving my left arm over my head and back down to my side.

It may look a bit odd to the other traffic, but so far i have been ok , and not hit from the rear.

I did get hit one time on the freeway by a drunk who was getting on ,
I was in the right lane and he hit me in the right rear. Man that hurt !!

Oh yea , I'm still looking for my boot that came off in the fly over the bars and a car, followed by a slide that happened from the impact.:(

Glad you escaped with no bad damages.

I have been

Only accident I've ever had in 50+ years of driving happen couple of years back. I was on a three lane road at the stop signal behind two cars in the middle lane with cars stopped behind and on both sides of me. Once the light turned green we started to move went maybe 10 feet & the vehicle in front of me stopped & so did I. Next thing I heard was this crunch sound and I was picking myself up off the pavement facing at the car maybe 15 ft. behind me. My 400 was maybe 10 ft. in front of me. Women got out and first thing out she said was "the light was green". I said yea but did you notice no one was moving? Nice young black kid help me pick my bike up & push it over into a gas station at the corner. We exchanged insurance info bike looked okay & started I felt okay. No cops were called & I went directly to my insurance office & reported it to my insurance. Had 15 miles to ride home once 5 or so miles went buy my back was hurting. Next morning I couldn't move. Lost 7 days of work 400 had $3500 worth of damage and my insurance didn't total it. They had to fight with the other insurance company as she didn't report it. (I should have had the cops come out).
Moral you can be careful but sometimes there is nothing you can do to fix STUPID.:(
Oh yea I didn't do to much to my 400 and rode it for the next couple of years before I sold it. Tupperware was scratched but not broken. Muffler and rear tire took most of the hit.
I don't remember getting knocked off the 400 or hitting the ground. My body had very large bruise marks on my right hip and some road rash also. Helmet did show a minor scratch were it hit the pavement.
Thing I do different now is I don't move from a stop when the vehicle in front of me does. I wait a second or two before I move. ;)

I have been riding for 59 years & have had two accidents. Both of them were when I was sitting still at a traffic light.
That is why I prefer to sit BETWEEN lanes of traffic when possible.rather than behind cars. I also don't usually go to the head of the line. If you are first you have to take off when the light changes & that leaves you open to red light runners.
The first time (1961) I was hit from the side when a guy was turning into a driveway & thought the gap between two cars was empty. I slid across the ground & my head hit the curb. The helmet looked like an egg shell after you give it several taps. I had one finger almost cut off that they were able to reattach & several other injuries.
The second time I was bumped from behind. I only had a rather badly bruised foot but the bike required about $1500 in repairs.

Not to change the subject but... Why is it so important to answer a phone when it shows missed call with caller ID? I've seen invisible drivers scouting around the passenger compartment normally the footwell where it gets thrust, and try to grab it ???? Can't she wait a few mins? Is it worth killing someone in the opposing lane or rear ending !!! A guy got cut in half here a few months ago when a texting truck driver reared him in a semi at 60 mph with 40 tonnes! There were no skid marks!!

The same thing happened to me today I was turning into my driveway when someone hit my plastic thing above the tire. Luckily the only thing damaged was that plastic piece I just had to pop it back off my tire and was good to go. It amazes me how little people pay attention to us on our bikes.

After I was hit in the rear on my black scooter wearing a black jacket and a black helmet, I had to make some adjustments to get the family to shut up. I bought a white replacement scooter with deceleration warning lights and led lights on the top case. The family insisted that I buy one of those ugly high visibility yellowish/greenish jackets and a white helmet.
