Question? What if any test equipment do you have or can use?

  • Nothing. I let my shop do the work.

Re: Question? What if any test equipment do you have or can

Nice idea, but the answers available don't necessarily reflect the question..........I both have, and can use, more test equipment than listed, but they were not an option.

Plus, how is a motorcycle lift/stand test equipment? Isn't that just a specialist tool?

I also selected the "I so fast" option, not because I'm fast enough, but I am smart enough to put it against a garage wall and look at the lighting patterns, so I figured that counts.

It should be an interesting poll.

I'm not fast enough either but my arms are long enough that I can hold one hand behind the bike while I work the lever with the other.

You'll never get a poll that will please everyone. It would be two pages long. Just a few simple answers is all thats needed.

A lift is nice so you can run the bike in gear and see if the running gear is OK.

How about a good education, coupled with a logical and insightful approach? Three good tools that money cannot necessarily buy.

Bingo...

I also selected the "I'm so fast" option, as I have sufficient ingenuity to use a length of cord to pull be brake lever while standing at the rear of the bike...

Re: Question? What if any test equipment do you have or can

In another post I made the guess that 75% of you may not even have a VOM, be it analog or digital. It seems some of ya all are more TECH savvy than I thought. :D I know over 6 years ago when I first signed on here, IF I had done this poll, the answers would be much different with "I let the dealer...." being the #1 answer. As of right now none of ya have selected that option. Seems this forum stuff does work.

Hey, from the stats so far the Harley riders are wrong about us. We are not a bunch of STUPID "Sissy Gurl" bike riders. :D We got TECH!!!

My shop is set up so well I even work on Harley's.
I have had 2 of them in the last 2 weeks. One I replaced the coil pack and the other was a head gasket.
Last month a total stranger rode up and asked if I could help him swap out a front tire on his GSXR.
A friend (our homeless biker dude) told him about me and he just stopped on in to ask for help.
I never knew when we moved here that there was such a big motorcycle community here.
I have run into 12 Vlogger's already at local bike nights.
My garage is always open to any biker that needs help with there ride.

Electronic test equipment:

Mini machine shop:

And a couple drill presses, bench grinders, assorted power tools, gas and electric torches/welders, and two or three Craftsman and Snap-On tool chests--accumulated over 50+ years. I counted, there are 9 multimeters...

Nice setup Cliffy. The funny thing is recently I had to pull out my Silly-Scope to troubleshoot a problem I was having with my Admore lighting module for my top case, I didn't think in a million years I would ever have to use it on a very simple CKT. Oh well you live and learn.

Re: Question? What if any test equipment do you have or can

From the list I have a digital and an analog VOM, test probe, and Handy lift. I also have a battery analyzer, cabinet style Dwell/Tach meter, a couple of toolboxes full of inch/metric tools, cylinder hone, vac gauge, fuel pressure gauge, tire changer, wheel balancer, lots more, and 45 years of using all of it. Had you asked six years ago, I'd still have had all of it except the Handy lift.

I've never had dealers work on my vehicles other than the initial service and warranty work. But I usually modify them enough that they're not under warranty very long. :)
