Without being able to examine the new 2013 models in person I have to guess, surmise and deduct, but has anyone looked at all the black plastic on the new models? There is much more of it than before and I wonder if this new black is actually polyethylene (PE) rather than ABS. From the pictures I've examined of the 2013 650 it looks as if the new black plastic parts shield the painted (ABS?) painted parts from damage if the bike is dropped. PE would not crack like ABS does; it would just get scuffed up a little bit and that would be just a cosmetic issue that would be somewhat fixable without replacing the part. Also, with PE on the bottom of the bikes cracked plastic from rocks or other things low to the ground would be greatly reduced, too. With much of the new models PE a low speed crash that in the past would total the bike just from the cracked and broken ABS panels might not be so costly and might make the bike worth the repair to the insurance company.

Food for thought.
