Today I followed the ebay auction of a brand new 2012 Burgman 650. The final bid was $5350. It was below the reserve and did not sell. Of course they had a bunch of stupid fees tacked on as well, but it was still a good price.

I'd only buy new if it were for the convenience of having a warranty. There are just too many low mileage bikes out there for sale - and very often listed cheap. My 650 cost me $5000 out the door with just under 4k on the clock and 4 months warranty left should something not be right. Its condition was almost new with some swirls in the paint that distinguished it from new - in all other respects it was like new.

It seems the market in the PNW is perpetually soft for these machines - it may be stronger in other parts of the country - especially where riding year round is more practical. Guys like Dabo and Dave J. riding year round in this neck of the woods aren't 'normal'. :D I've had few days so far that I consider riding weather. The temp gage needs to reach 60* for me to consider anything but a short jaunt. I could count the number of 60+ days we've had on one hand - and I could be missing 3 fingers (I'm not) and still count on one hand. High desert weather sucks in the winter. In spring/summer/fall its where the guys on the coast would like to be riding most days.

Well with a 2012 MSRP of $9,899 I'm not surprised it didn't sell cause the reserve I'd guess would be above $8,000 on a brand new untitled bike. While this one isn't an Exec it has almost no miles on it and comes in that lovely red color.

I purchased my '09 new two years ago and got it for $7,500 OTD with 1.99% which I don't think wasn't much more than I paid for my new '03 back in late 2003. I think Burgmans are more of a specialty item so when the economy takes a dive people sell off stuff driving prices down.

This thread was from my "Second Non-Commute Ride of the Year". http://www.yearroundriders.com/forum/in ... topic=7894

The temperature wasn't quite up to 60F. I had the road pretty much to myself as it was a weekday. I'm not crazy, but I dress for the weather. When I put studs in my tires, then I'll consider myself crazy.

I would break down and cry if it hit 60F this month. Today on my 40 minute one way scoot commute it was 19F, but at least it is a dry cold.

I sure miss that global warming, but I avoid my cage unless there is ice or snow on the road.

I've been up and down the Ben-Howard road many times on two wheels. Its a great 'short cut' from Snohomish to Monroe. I used to live on the top of Three Lakes Rd hill for a few years. You probably rode past my old home.

Wait a few months and you'll be able to ride the whole mountain loop highway. 'Highway' is a stretch once you get to Monte Cristo. If you've never rode all the way from Granite Falls to Darrington you should give it a try. I used to drive up to the Ice Caves and hike into Monte Cristo on weekends with my kids. The wife never like hiking and I always enjoyed it. I've even climbed a mountain a few times - Mt Pilchuck. Great hike and there is an old fire watch 'cabin' at the top. Not much of a cabin but a great view of Green Mountain and the Cascades beyond and much of the Mountain Loop area. Try it some day if you have a day to kill. Or the Lake 22 trail. There are many others I've been up and down and can't recall the names of right now. Goat Lake trail comes to mind but its a mid-late summer all day hike due to the elevation and snow.

There is a peak near Monte Cristo that was named after a WWII hero that is also the namesake of the first ship I served on in the USN - USS James E. Kyes - DD-787.

Sometimes I do miss living in Arlington. There are some mighty fine roads around there. But I have some great roads around here too - and I bet you don't have a free State Ferry ride an hour from your home! That would be the Keller Ferry.

Not often you get a free ride out of the Washington State Ferry system. And I know - technically it isn't free.

Daboo - thanks for the link to your rider's report. Nice pics - reminds me of why I'm living here! SUNSHINE!

Well - mostly!

Saw a marque at a real estate office in my town that read "We don't shovel sunshine". I live in Port Charlotte Florida. We can not wait for the Snowbirds to go home for the Summer and can get our town back. I must say it is great to be able to ride all year round.

Marv, it must be nice down in Port Charlotte. I've lived hear in St.Pete for 41 years and I can remember when the roads used to free up in the summer when the tourists went back home. Now it seems like we never get our roads back to ourselves summer or winter. :x As you know we don't get much of a spring or fall.

Do you belong to "The Scooter Trash" riding club in St Pete? I was on their last Three day rally. Nice people.

t is my understanding that it's worse for a vehicle to not get driven than to be driven too much. With 191 miles in 6 years I'd be concerned with stuff dry rotting.
You are speaking for me. When you mention this to someone they act as if you are calling them a lair and beating them. If it has been sitting for 3 years with the occasional start, is it full of gunk? A full service is about $600 and a new owner should not have to pay new money for an 07 then pay for a service.

I hear ya, I have friends that learned the hard way buying used cars and not listening to me when I recommend a higher mileage option they looked at, "look at how low the miles are" they say, haha, I try to tell them "do you realize how bad it is for a car to sit for 3+ years and never even get started" It's almost better if the oil was only changed once a year than to have it sit forever. Especially if it wasn't in climate controlled storage/garage.

Sure wish I could find a deal like that. All of the 650's I've checked out around here dealer & private party all are asking higher then suggested retail. I've offered $300 under retail cash and no takers. :? I guess they are for sale but not willing to sell.

At the point of the dealer/seller turning down my offer I sometimes hand them my card with the offer number and let them know I'm interested at my price. I've had a few dealers take me up on my offer once they've had a bit of time to think about it. Its how I got my 650. Dealing in cash or per-arrainged credit and no trade helps get the price you want.

We're about the same distance from both of you two. We live in Sebring; And can't wait for the Birds to drive back North.

I have taken our motor scooter group to Homer's Buffet in Sebring many times. It's our favorite restaurant in town.
