I finally decided to just go ahead and order the corbin seat. it is a pretty large investment, but I have decided that I really enjoy the scooter and I might as well get it set up the way I want it. I learned a while back to just get the thing that you want the first time. you usually end up getting it sooner or later. later usually means several other items bought along the way that you weren't all that happy with. and corbin seats seem to hold their value. 2 years from now I could probably still sell it for $300. so $100 to "rent" it while I own the scooter seems reasonable.
sorry about the rant. my question, how long did you have to wait for your seat from oneida-suzuki. I realize it is being shipped from corbin($50 shipping!, ouch).
I plan to keep the 650 until someone builds a 1000cc scooter. hopefully, in a year or two. but, if someone does build one and its cost is over $10k, I will probably bite the bullet and get a goldwing. if they would only build an automatic goldwing. . my local honda dealer told me that there were plans to do just that a few years ago, and all of the goldwing groups raised such a stink about it, that honda shelved the idea. I am not sure why anyone would object to a full aoto goldwing. most people drive automatic vehicles.

It took about 3 weeks for mine as I think Oneida orders them from Corbin after you order from them. Did you make sure to mention the coupon code for $20 on next order as seen on this website? I used mine the other day and ordered the long style Corbin backrest. I got an email today after a week that said it was on backorder until the 30th. It seems like a normal thing for Oneida to have things on backorder. Reminds me of the other night when I went to KFC and they told me they were OUT of Chicken! INSERT HOMER SIMPSON DOOOUUU HERE!

I agree with you, I already spent money on my seat and it's not right so I am going to order the Corbin as soon as Oneida gets it.
They say 2 weeks-I am talking about the 400 seat- I was told 2 weeks delivery.
But now I have another problem, if Oneida charges 50 bucks for shipping then ordering it from the factory may not be such a bad idea,
delivered it's 500.19 but I can get it in any color they have. I believe Oneida only gets black. does anyone know for sure. :?:

Bean and Randy,

I'm pretty sure that $50 is close to actual shipping costs. Corbin seats are very heavy - and they are large. I've shipped Clearview windscreens that I sold twice (Large, but not heavy). Due to the size of the box, UPS charges as though it were a 70 lb item. Cost me over $40 each time. I checked with the post office too - same story, over $40. So when I was on the phone with Clearview the next time I asked if they got a volume discount on shipping. They don't - they have to pay the same rates that I did.

Paul,
I guesstimated the costs were around $35-50 for actual shipping. it is coming from Ca and will be a rather large box. I wasn't really faulting oneida, just commenting about the high shipping costs.

Bean,

I edited my post to remove the Oneida vs Corbin stuff. I went to the Corbin site, and they DO add shipping charges to the seat price, based on the shipping method you select. I didn't go far enough through the check out process to see the actual shipping cost, because I didn't want to inadvertantly buy a seat that I can't afford right now.

I can see myself explaining to my wife... But Dear, I bought it by accident!

Another lost opportunity

Don't remember the shipping chargers but total price (delivered) for Corbin was $500.19
They charged ME $58.21 using their "cheapest" shipping method. PLUS, I had to pay return shipping MYSELF back to Corbin for warranty repair. NOT a happy old dude.....Mike

My total cost with shipping from Oneida was $424.48. This is just for the seat, no backrests with this order.
Total: $ 457.19 from Oneida with shipping. Think distance to California did me in....

Hey Mike,
Corbin is based here in CA. Hollister, near Monterey. You could've bought direct and had a great excuse to go to Carmel for the weekend. So, why do people buy these seats from Oneida in lieu of direct from Corbin?

Peace.

For a $100.00 PLUS discount plus the $20.00 discount coupon AFTER buying the seat.

Whoa!! That would tend to sway one's decision, now wouldn't it?

Peace.
Now that Corbin has my seat for Warranty replacement, I found out they are about to begin production on a NEW Corbin seat for short legged riders like myself. I have BEGGED for them to just keep my seat and send me a replacement "prototype" or ANYTHING with mods for my short legs if possible. Haven't heard any response yet. If they come through, Corbin will become my all time HERO. Not holding my breath, but sure would go a LONG way towards the bad tast in my mout right now.....

Hey Pappy! That's good news! I don't have the short leg problem, but I sure don't need my head sticking up higher over the windscreen - so the higher seat they came out with didn't appeal to me either. Same height as stock would do me just fine...
Man oh man I HOPE! We were exchanging e mails in almost "realtime" until I asked if they could "swap" me out for a new, used, prototype, ANY seat to more meet my needs. ALL e mail stopped at that point. Sure hope they will help me out. Would mean the world to me. Lost my job of 20 years this Monday so no more money to play around....

Just got off the phone with Corbin. Paul Gomez e mailed me to call Theron Blair in Hollister about my "wish" for the new "close" model as it will be called for the all new Corbin seat for us short legged riders. Long story short, Theron got the switch approved for me! I may wait till I die for it, but at least I'll have a seat I can use and not have to sell it at a loss and then buy another one etc. I want to THANK both Theron AND Paul at Corbin for their help. It means the world to this old man! Really cheered me up.
