How about we start a string about the oils, lubricants & fluids we all prefer to use in our machines? Sharing information on these products (including brands, grades and product names, ex. Castrol GTX 10W40) would be a big help to a lot of current and new owners. What do ya'll think :?:

Thanks for the input and redirection Pauljo. The string talks more about the use of synthetics, I am more interested in a discussion about standard oils. For instance, the manual recommends the use of a 10w40 oil rated SF or SG in both the engine and trans; the standard 10w40's you get in places like Wal-Mart or AutoZone are not rated SF or SG. My suggestion is a thread to discuss what 'standard' oils owners are using in lieu of the suzuki brand stuff. I think this info would be a big help to all 650 and 400 owners.

I know we may have discussed this somewhat in other threads, but it might be helpful to everyone to have a centralized thread on the topic. Myabe we should move th the tread to the General Discussion area.

The API SF/SG rating recommended by the manual is the minimun API rating required; any API rating more advanced than that is fine(such as SL/SJ). It just meets a later and more stringent oil spec. The brand name 10W40 oils sold at W-M are fine as long as they show an API rating of at least SF/SG.
