I was having a conversation with a Buddy that just picked up his new 03 650 today about the oil in our engine and other fluids. Both of our burg's were manufactured in March of 03 and I would like to know the oil that we got with our burg how long has that oil been in the engine. When was that oil added, was it in Japan at the factory or in California where they enter the states or at the dealer when they get them or just before they deliver to the customer.

It didn't matter to me , I changed all my fluids @ 150 miles. Must of the shavings you will find in th oil, comes by 50 miles.
I changed them again @ 1,500 miles. 3,000 after that

Bikes in the US are shipped to the dealers "dry". No oil, fuel, coolant or battery. Dealers add all of the fluids and charge and install the battery after the bike is sold. This is why I always tell people that it is legit for a dealer to charge a small (emphasis on "small") setup or prep fee. The manufacturer doesn't reimburse the dealer for the fluids.
