No longer a pre-newbie!

Well, I have officially changed status from pre-newbie to newbie - my wife and I took a 200 mile round trip today and came home with a shiny, blue 2003 Burgie 400! It's sitting proudly in the garage right now, waiting for insurance coverage and for me to get licensed. It sure looked good sitting in the back of the truck on the way home, and I'm looking forward to riding it.

I'm not sure when the inaugural ride will take place, but I'm sure it won't come soon enough for me!

Any other Burgie riders in San Jose, Ca?

Congratulations on the purchase of your Burgman!
Congratulations on the new Burgman 400 Alan. Is it a dealer holdover or did ya get a 'pre-loved' bike? Having one setting in the garage without riding it is going to be tough. But just remember that you'll be out on 2 wheels soon.
Glad you registered, Alan!!!

Hello there in California!

I don't have a Burgman, but I hope to one day.

Hope you & your wife have many wonderful hours of riding your new scoot!

Keep us posted!

It's a pre-loved unit - came with about 4100 miles on it, has had dealer service at 600 miles and 4000 miles and looks almost new - there's a couple of scrapes on the back end of the tailpipe, but other than that it's great. The previous owner threw in a nice Zeus helmet (I'm not sure of the model number, but the visor flips up, and the chin piece also flips up) and a cover to keep the scoot clean.

It's going to be hard to keep it in the garage - but the Boss says we need to pay other bills before we can sign up for the Motorcycle Safety class and get licensed, and I have to agree; we have one son who just went into the Navy 2 weeks ago, and his older brother who just lost his job and needs help while he's looking for a new job. But by the time spring rolls around we'll be rolling as well!

I bet the helmet is a Zeus 508. Look forward to hearing your first ride report.
Congrats on the new machine. Maybe you should consider moving the tv out to the garage as well. This way at least you can sit on your bike making vroom sounds and watch tv :D
Hi Alan - congrats on the acquisition of your preloved 'Svelte'.

I know exactly what you are going through!

I used to spend a couple of hours a day pottering around in my garage doing this and that or not very much. When I acquired the new lardy but could not ride - the pain reduction strategy was to minimise the times I visited the garage - but I have to say the strategy failed! It is a real torment having a new toy and being denied the pleasure.

Way cool Alan!
congratulations on the purchase of your 400. I really enjoy mine. Hope you get to take the course and get insured soon.
I feel your pain. I bought my Burgman on a day that it was snowing. I arranged to pick it up in two weeks after they installed some options.

After one week I couldn't take it anymore! I called them up and showed up that afternoon with my plates in hand and a rainstorm outside. At least I got to test my raingear. :D

Welcome to the family! :hello2:

Alan,

Congratulations and I wish you and your wife many happy hours of riding on your pre-loved jewel. I haven't ridden since January 1st (waiting for good weather) and need a fix.It must be tough to have it and not ride but hang in there--it'll be worth it!

So, is it possible to wax a burgy in winter temperatures in a garage :?:

Or talk to it, or hug it :D :D
Talking will work OK. Hugging - you might get a "cold shoulder". Waxing is better left to warmer temps.
Very cool, Alan. Congratulations and my deepest sympathy for your current dilemma not being quite able to climb on and, well, scoot. As you can see, I'm just up the highway from you folks. My 400 was immobile recently getting a partial face-lift (less miles than yours, but more neglect from previous owner), is looking better and better. Maybe sometime we riders and spouses could do a ride in Santa Cruz mountains?

That might work - I want to get comfortable on the thing first, then get comfortable with the Boss in the "tall seat" behind me before I try anything like Hiway 17 or Hiway 9 with the two of us though!

Alan
Congrats!!!

My wife and I will be joining you sometime in the (hopefully) near future.
