I just got my new variator kit from malossi.
My problem is that the new on does not have any screw holes for the stopper.
See pictures.

My question is, do I need this stopper ring?

Should I return the aftermarket part and find OEM?

Picture 1 is comparing the old part to the new part.

Picture 2 is showing the lack of screw hole on the new part.

Picture 3 is the old part with the stopper ring in place.

Picture 4 is the new part with no stopper ring

My understanding is that it is just an assembly aid. Most scooters don't have that ring. If it was there to limit the motion it would need to be a much heavier material.

My previous scoot didn't have one and you should be fine without it.
Just be sure to hold the unit together when installing it (essentially, any position other than the flat surface it was assembled on). You want to keep the roller weights from shifting around. More important if you are using sliders, you don't want them to flip. Once on the crank shaft, the belt and outer sheave will hold it together while tightening.
