I'm new to blogging. New to the purchasing of a Burgman. My options at this point is either an 2012 or 2013. Regardless of cost and finance (don't want to get into that on the blog), what is yall's professional and experiential thoughts on which one to buy? The main thing I am interested in is long term mechanical non failure/maintenance free. Just my brief reading of the blog there seems to be some issues with past Burgs. How many miles could a person expect to get out of one if he keeps it for long term? I am wanting a bike that I can get on and ride even on the interstate with just tires/oil maintenance for at least the first 20-30k miles. Is that too much to ask for the Burgman?

Thanks,
Blind and dumb :)

I have 30K+ on my 2003...nothing but oil and tires and brake fluid changes and a battery...I have one of the "louder" ones  ...but it has become endearing to me over the last 9 years ...I would expect 50K without an issue...some are pigs from the start....just like anything else...it is always a crap shoot

I ride an '05-400 with a bit over 40,000 miles,
with only normal maintenance as per the
owners manual. Freeway riding...no problem.

If I were looking for a 400 cc Burgman either year are identical, go for the best deal. A 650 I would go with the latter year, they did make some changes. Both bikes can go 20K with oil and tires, but all bikes need to be inspected and adjusted as needed. As a note the belt on the 400 will have to be changed between 15K and 20K based on rider reports. This is a DIY for someone with some garage skills, and tools like an impact wrench, and other hand tools.

Hope you become a Burgman rider soon.
