Anyone else think the owners manual is sorely lacking in information? I have a couple of questions that more seasoned riders may know the answer to.
1) Can you switch to the manual mode at any speed and will the bike then pick the proper gear to be in when you do switch?

2) Can you switch to the power mode at any speed?

I cannot find the information anywhere in the manual.

For passing you just push the power button, the engine rpm's increase, you make your pass and push the power button again.

For manual use you push the "M" side of the yellow M-D switch, then shift up and down manually. Particularly useful going down steep hills, otherwise I think it's more trouble than it's worth. Unless you are drag racing and then, according to Motorcycle Consumer News, you can knock a second (maybe a tad more) off the zero to sixty time.

Yes you can, and yes it does. Basicaly all it does, is shift at a higher RPM 6.500 - 7,000 or so instead of 4,000-5,000. Works great for passing.
M is very clever; it picks the right gear and will drop it into first when you stop.
