Hi everyone bought me more dramas Suzuki Burgman An650 2009.
yes, she stripped, the story goes the original owner paid 5800.00AUD For the bike and only had 3 weeks of happy riding. One day while riding he heard weird noises in the cvt then the back wheel locked on him. the bike was taken to a mechanic he diagnosed as a broken belt.
I didn't ask how much he was quoted so my guess is a lot.
so he towed his bike home and decided to do the job himself.
he managed to strip her down and gave up.
I purchased it now and the panels and paint are all in mint condition and still registered.
i have been looking around prices on the belt and is more expensive than what I paid for the bike.
Does anyone know where I can buy 300 to 400 cheap belt including shipping?

Those stainless steel exhaust bolts like to seize into aluminum (aluminium) threads, dissimilar metal corrosion, spray with a good penetrating oil and let soak overnight, it kinda looks like the internal hex/allen on bolts are rounded off , probably will require other removal method, easy out, grinding or drilling, absolutely hate Suzuki bolt setup for exhaust (n), installed a lot of muffler studs on Suzuki sportbikes over the years, not fun :censored:

I would definitely take apart and evaluate 1st, before buying anything, Good Luck

thanks for the reply.
I think it's possible the guy rounded off.
easy out I'm not very confident using it had a bad experience one time.
forget penetrating oil working up but I have had good outcomes in past
using a heat torch to heat up the bolt and try jamming bigger size Allen key by taping it with a hammer.
the other thing I could do is cut the exhaust just enough to get to CVT.
then I can get joiners to clamp the exhaust together that's if there is such a thing.

Those header bolts actually look like security Torx bolts. The pin in the middle is one give-away. The other is that the shape inside the socket is not hex but a Torx star. It does require a special security Torx bit to remove those.

Another option to replacing only the belt is, as I'm sure @Dave_J will attest, to buy a complete used low miles CVT unit. I don't know what the pricing might be in your country but I think I've read somewhere that over here such a unit can be bought for the price range you mentioned... $300-$400... maybe? eBay might be a place to look for that.

my eyes are bad i couldn't see that but you are absolutely right it has a center dot.
where can i find that special security Torx bit.
about buying a used CVT-i have seen it on ebay international can't remember what country I think France or Italy. the problem is shipping costs over 1200
what do you consider low miles?
this bike has only done 18,000miles or 30,000kms
and the belt is gone

The B650 cvt belt is unique/propietary Suzuki oem part, is a combination of rubber and metal, there is no aftermarket or is supposed to be a " Life of Vehicle Part ", exactly what that means is ....

Those bits are not hard to find, they are security/tamper proof, Torx hex star bits, most hardware stores, auto parts, tool stores have them, why where they used there is a mystery in itself

Looking closer in that last pic I think @Bluebottle is right and I was seeing a reflection off the very bottom center and sides of the hole. Looking close at the upper header bolt in that photo it does look more like an Allen bolt (I'm still getting used to new tri-focal glasses). You may need to simply add to your supply of metric Allen wrenches. If any of those bolts is rounded out inside then you may have to use Vise-Grips or clamping pliers to get it off and then replace it with a hardened metric bolt of the same thread size and length. But good to hit it with penetrating oil first for overnight anyway just to make it easier to get out.

As to what counts as low miles... I would guess that anything under 20,000-30,000 kms would be considered low miles. If the belt is broken within that then the bike likely had been abused or used very hard. Possibly missing the air filter and something went in through that place. Or possibly even just a fluke that the belt broke a lot earlier than usual. Most CVT belts on the 650 that break get many many more miles/kms before that happens and even then it is not all that common for the belt to break unless conditions are really bad to operate the scooter in.

You need to have a hand Impact tool to SMACK while it turns.

Try with a 6mm or a slightly bigger 1/4 and if that fails a cheap Torx that will be 'Rubbish Binned' when done.
