Glad to be a new member! My name is Ron Kerlin, from Ft Myers, FL. Been riding motorcycles and scooters for about 45 years now.

I am a retired pilot, having flown for the USAF, airlines, and corporate.

I currently teach MSF safety courses, both on motorcycles and the new MSF scooter course.

I currently own and ride the following:

Vino125, People150&250, Majesty400, Pacific Coast 800, and VMax 1200.

Looking forward to sharing ideas and info with other safety-concious riders!

See you on the forum!

Ron

Hi Ron

Welcome to the forum (again!) :hello2:

You will find a good crowd on here (Hell - you even speak the same language as most of them! )

Look forward to you joining in the many safety debates we get embroiled in here - and other subjects too of course!!

Be careful though - you may be adding another machine to your stable!!

I checked the MSF web site and they list nothing about a scooter course. My wife would be very interested.

Can youl provide details?

Welcome Ron!

Always wonderful to "meet" a RiderCoach. I really respect and appreciate the hard work you all do with us rookie riders.

Lynn and I took the MSF in late June/early July. We both feel we really benefitted from it, even though we may always ride scooters or auto-tranny bikes. I take those lessons with me every ride! :D

Enjoy the forum and the ride,

Bryna

Welcome to the forum! I would be interested in the Scooter course. Are there specific materials (books) for the course or does it generally use the motorcycle material and the instructor adapts accordingly? I am in Pennsylvania and the courses, while free, are hard to get into - they fill up within 15 minutes of opening and all have been filled through October and won't reopen until spring. If PA starts to offer a scooter course, I may still do the motorcycle one in addition just for reinforcement but a scooter specific one would end up cutting down the questions that I'll inevitably ask the instructor.

Vino 125 Heavy, clear to land.
Wind one one zero at one hundred.
I don't think I'd want to take even an AN650 out in a hurricane. Yikes!

My prayers to all in Florida this year.

Hey Ron

Your reputation precedes you!! :)
I copy this form the yahoo maxi scoot forum:
.....snipped...All of this to say I am considering either a Yamaha Majesty or a
Burgman 400. I think I would be very happy with either. Hopefully,
in a couple weeks the Yamaha/Suzuki dealer I am working with will
have both models available and I will be able to compare them side by
side. I joined the Yahoo Yamaha Majesty group to see what others are
saying. Unfortunately, the Majesty is just now reaching the dealers
in the US and there isn't a whole lot of posting. If you join that
group, you might check the postings of Ron Kerlin starting with post

bikes and scooters, teaches motorcycle safety, and seems well
connected to the motorcycle/scooter industry. His comments are
factual and objective, at least as objective as a person can be.
Obviously, personal taste has a lot to do with one's opinion. For
example, some might not like the lack of a passenger backrest on the
Majesty while others say it makes it a lot easier for the passenger
(usually a woman) to get on board. A lot depends on how you plan to
use the scooter.

From everything I have read, I am presently leaning slightly towards
the Majesty but when I see them side by side I may have a different
opinion. Good luck in your hunt.

Welcome Ron, from a retired TWA captain and avid AN650 rider. I spend the winters on Ft. Myers Beach, if there is a beach after this hurricane season, and look forward to riding around with you sometime. Enjoy this forum, it's got a lot of great info and friendly guys to share their thoughts. Billy
