Here is a shameless plug for our local riding group:

Minn-Max, Minnesota Maxiscooter Riders

We are located in the Minneapolis / Saint Paul area and as the name states, we ride touring class scooters. However, anyone anywhere with an interest in these big scoots are welcome to join our YahooGroup and participate in the conversation.

Currently folks in our group own a variety of machines including; the Suzuki Burgman 400 and 650, the Honda Elite 250, Helix, Reflex, and Silverwing, the Aprilia Atlantic and Scarabeo, the Piaggio X-9 and BV200, and the even a Vespa or two.

Our Rides are scheduled for the 2nd Saturday and the 4th Sunday of the month, April through September. The length of the rides vary, though 120 miles in a day is not unusual. On our rides we avoid bustling highways when we can, preferring the quiet beauty of scenic country roads with speeds seldom exceeding 55 mph. If this type of riding appeals to you and you are in the area, we’d love to have you join in on the fun.

2005 First Group Ride of the Season - Take 3

The truth changed yet again.

Minn-Max, Minnesota Maxiscooter Riders' first ride of 2005 has been postpone because of another cold snap. We're hoping to finally get the season started on Sunday, May 15th. Anyone who is going to be in the greater Minneapolis/Saint Paul area of Minnesota is invited.

This ride will be mostly along the river roads of St. Paul, meandering to Grey Cloud Island for a noontime picnic. As is our tradition for the first ride of the season, it will be a shorter trip of about 70 miles in total.

Again, all are welcome. For more details and a listing of our 2005 Ride Schedule, visit the Minn-Max website at http://www.maxiscooters.org.

Minn-Max, Minnesota Maxiscooter Riders 2006 pre-season planning session took place earlier in March with a record number of participants in attendance. Held in the employee break room of Motoprimo, a local motorsports dealership, we determined our ride schedule for the year. As we anticipate this year we will see from twelve to twenty-five maxiscooterists per ride, we also discussed how to handle such large turn outs.

The first of our thirteen planned 2006 group rides for Minn-Max, Minnesota Maxiscooter Riders was held on Saturday, April 22nd, and was great. As is tradition, we started with a shorter ride, just 60 miles. The weather cooperated with temps in the low 60s, warm for April in Minnesota. The turnout was the best ever for a season opener ride with 16 scooterists on 16 scooters. The numbers break down as follows:

  • 1 - Aprilia Scarabeo 150
    1 - Honda Helix
    5 - Honda Reflex
    3 - Honda Silver Wing
    1 - Kymco People 250
    2 - Suzuki Burgman 400
    2 - Suzuki Burgman 650
    1 - Suzuki Burgman 650 Executive
We usually have two rides a month, so if you are going to be in the greater Twin Cities area of Minnesota and would like to join us, we'd love to have you.

The 2006 riding season for Minn-Max, Minnesota Maxiscooter Riders has come to a close. It was a great year of wonderful rides with terrific people. A big thanks to all the ride planners and leaders, and to everyone who joined us on our rides. We held 14 rides and averaged 13 maxiscooters per ride. We also set a new maximum turn out of machines on a single ride with 19 back in August.

While the cold weather does bring an end to our organized riding activities here in the North Star State, it doesn't end our enjoyment of all things maxiscooter. Our typical "winter schedule" includes a meet-up on the Saturday of the Cycle World International Motorcycle Show, which will be on February 4, 2007. We also hold our annual planning session, usually later in February or early in March, though the exact date for 2007 has yet to be set. This winter we expect to also add to our calendar a covered-dish social sometime in January.

Of course, many Minn-Max'rs will continue to be active on the web through the colder months, participating in discussions here at BurgmanUSA, on our own forum, and many other maxiscooter sites. Even in a snowy state like Minnesota scootering is a year round hobby.

As Yogi Berra said, "It ain't over, till it's over."

With the unusual forecast for the North Star State of temperatures in the mid sixties on Wednesday the 8th, Minn-Max, Minnesota Maxiscooter Riders is planning an unprecedented November ride. The 160 mile jaunt through the countryside will begin and end at a local Suzuki dealership (they also sell Aprilia, Piaggio, and Vespa scooters).

If you are in the area and interested in joining the fun, check out the details on our YahooGroup discussion forum, reachable through our website. As always, all safe riders are welcome.

Adam,

Looking forward to seeing what's on tap for the spring. There have been rumblings from scoot owners in the greater midwest that they would come for a weekend of riding, possibly St Croix Valley or the like. Since your members seem to have a blast on your rides, we're kinda envious.

A long weekend, like 3 days or so in June, with a few available rides to Stillwater, Taylor's Falls, or the like would be a great payoff for those of us who have to cruise a little farther than a short ride really justifies. A run up or down Wisconsin 35 would probably be a blast too.

All we need is a handy campground or inexpensive motel to join in on a ride with your locals. Nothing fussy, just a chance at fellowship for some of us out on the fringes.

I'll be holding some extra vacation this year so hopefully I can take a few days and join a ride.

Thanks for the heads up, Iron Ranger. We will be sure to consider ideas on how out-of-area folks could link up with Minn-Max in 2007.

Our annual overnight ride is an option. Last year we rode to Wabasha in the Minnesota River Valley on a Saturday morning, then ran a few rides out of there on Saturday after and Sunday. It sounds like next year may also include more than one overnight and perhaps a three day ride somewhere.

It is doubtful that we will hold anything resembling a mini-rally. Right now we have to consider how best to handle the larger turnouts we are getting with just local riders. I really don't see us being in the position to host a regional gathering any time soon.

Our preseason planning meeting will take place in the first quarter of 2007. Any details from that meeting will show up on our discussion forum and the ride schedule will also be posted on our website.

Thanks.

Minn-Max will indeed be having our annual meet-up at the Motorcycle Show at the Minneapolis Convention Center in February. As usual it will be on the Saturday of the event and those wanting to will do a group lunch nearby.

2007 is already shaping up to be another banner year for Minn-Max, Minnesota Maxiscooter Riders.

The lucky number of 13 maxiscooterists turned out for our meet-up and lunch at the Minneapolis International Motorcycle Show in February. This included Iron Ranger down to say “hi” and promote the June rally "up Norte".

Our pre-season planning session took place earlier in March with a record number of 25 Minn-Max'rs in attendance. It was held right in the showroom of Scooterville, a shop dedicated to scooters both big and small. At the session we decided on where we go for on our 10 scheduled day rides and also on our annual overnight ride. Of course if this year is like 2006, you can pretty much count on another 6 to 10 "pick-up" group rides during the riding season here in the North Star State.

As always, all maxiscooterists who are willing to ride safely are welcome on our rides. If you are going to be in the area, be sure to check out more details on Minn-Max and our ride schedule at www.maxiscooters.org

Minn-Max, Minnesota Maxiscooter Riders has been off to a great riding season so far. Our first ride in late April was attended by 16 people on 16 maxiscooters. Our early May ride had 20 people on 19 machines tackling the winding roads along the Mississippi River. For both events the weather was fantastic with temps above average, light breezes, and beautiful skies.

With our third ride coming up this weekend, the weather looks a bit iffier. Rain is in the forecast for Saturday and temps on the cool side. A final decision has yet to be reached for this 190-mile trek, but it seems likely we will have to postpone it. As always, word about this will come out on our website and through our YahooGroup. Still this is often a favorite ride, so it is likely to have a good turnout whenever we do it.

We usually have two rides a month, so if you are going to be in the greater Twin Cities area of Minnesota and would like to join us, we'd love to have you.

As we ride into September Minn-Max, Minnesota Maxiscooter Riders has had a good, but unusual riding season so far. While we have some well attended big group rides with up to 20 people or more, we have also had a number of rides canceled due to weather, road work, and such. We have also seen a sizable growth of pick-up and destination based rides, plus linked up with an Iowa based scooter group on our overnight ride this past July.

Saturday, September 8th is our next scheduled group ride covering a scenic area north of Minneapolis. Turnout is expected to be good and the weather appears to be cooperating. If you are going to be in the greater Twin Cities area of Minnesota and would like to join us on a ride, we'd love to have you.

For details on Minn-Max and our current ride schedule, please visit www.maxiscooters.org.
