Say you are rowing the gears by hand, and you are in top gear and stop. Are you now in top gear when you start again...asumming that you dont change it ?

I think it puts you in 1st automatically. I will try it tonight on my way home from work.

It drops to first gear when you come to a stop regardless of what gear you were in. I very rarely use manual mode though. The transmission works so well in automatic mode that there is really no need to use manual.

The others are correct, it automatically reverts you back to 1st gear when you come to a stop. Since my machine is still in storage for the winter, I'm wondering if someone could do a simple test for me..?
Lets say you use auto 90% of the time, like most 650 owners. I'm wondering if you shift it to manual, lets say before you come up to a stop and your in 3rd gear. Does this lesson the bracking effect of the motor due to the higher selected gear ratio? Or does it automatically gear down as it normally would in auto?
Thanks

I was out last weekend (50 and sunny) and Yes it does. I kept in 5th all the way down to a stop. It works its way down to 1st automaticly, and does seem to free wheel better.
