I have a 650 and just had the 14,500 mile service done. The manual doesn't specify any service beyond 14,4500 miles. What did they have in mind? Go back to "0" and start over? Or keep servicing the scooter every 3,500 miles. Would it hurt the scooter if I serviced it every 6,000 miles?

Generally yes it starts over. Maintenance intervals may depend on use (normal or severe) or types of fluids used (dino or synthetic). If your using dino oil I wouldn't go past 3,000 miles but if its a synthetic then 6,000 miles might be ok.

I do use synthetic oil. Valvoline motorcycle oil, 20-40 which is rated for wet clutch use. I remember when Mobil 1 first came on the market. It stated it was good for 25,000 miles! I wonder what their claim is now.

I had switched to a 5k miles service interval using Shells Rotella's 5W-40 full synthetic from 10k miles, until my clutch bit the dust.
After the clutch rebuilt I went back to a 4k miles service interval using regular dino oil, Shell Rotella 15W-40.

stick to the oem recommended intervals and use oem products until you are out of warranty, then do as you please.

The reason I said that was due to a local guy using synthetic (Shell Rotella same as LeDude) and he had his oil tested at 5,000 miles. He said it was still fine and he thought 6K would probably be good.

One of the reasons I switched back to the Dino oil was price.
Shell Rotella 15W-40 is $12 for a gallon and the 5W-40 is $24.00 now days.

The synthetic is a bit quieter in the 04 engines. But it didn't make sense to me
to pay twice as much and not get the full benefit out of the oil by changing it
every 4k miles.

I have also switched to the EMGO oil filter which costs about $5.00 if you buy
a few online at a time. Got MJR to thank for this one, they fit the 650 perfectly,
even the oil filter key that suzuki sells for taking the filter off.

I am a big fan of the the 5W-40 full synthetic that Shell sells.
