i went for a day ride sat, thru the ctr of state and the bugs were everywhere, i would run unto swarms where i could barely see, i gave up looking thru the wind shield and when i lowered it my visor got it when i got home my scooter was a mess since it was dark i parked it until morning. what a mess! i experimented on what would clean them off and found that simple dawn dishwashing soap worked best a hot sudsy mix, spread on, leave for a few moments rub a little, and presto! all clean. worked for me
ride safe

Dawn is good for cleaning up lots of messy things. However it also strips wax off so when you use it on your bike you will need to reapply the wax.

I hate the Love Bugs of Florida as much as the Mosquitoes in Minnesota and Black flies in Nebraska!
A towel laid over the afflicted area and soaked with plain warm water will do the same without the Dawn.
You just have to wait 15-30 minutes for the bugs to get soggy and wipe away.

It's the smell when cleaning the little buggers off that most bother's me, you do need to get them off quickly as they're innards are acidic and will damage some vehicle finishes.

I ride/drive only near the Atlantic coast during the two love-bug seasons (May and September) where there are far fewer of them...

BBQ'd they taste just like chicken !!

Hated those flying pests the whole time we lived in swamp land.
The scientist that introduced them to the state should be found and waterborded at the very least.
They are not natural to the region and I was told they were brought in to control mosquitos. Sounds like something a condo developer came up with to me.

yup just plain water, soak them a little while and they come right off, don't soak and dynamite won't do it and the scrubbing will damage your finish, and you're right about the smell my girlfriend is really stinky after she finishes cleaning off them nasty things and I have to scrub her down real good

They're not too bad out our way, but you don'y have to venture too far inland before you regret only wearing a half-helmet.

I did have to give both bikes a good clean when we got back from Bradenton....

Buffalo.....what's this "Wax" thing you speak of? :D
