I hope this is an okay forum for this sort of question. Please let me know if I should repost it somewhere else.

I've been looking for a used Burgman 400 without much success. I found a 2009 model with 3700 miles at a local dealer for $5699. That seems high to me but still a lot less than a new one. As far as I can tell, the main difference in a new one is ABS.

So any thoughts on what is a reasonable price? Are there enough differences in a new one to justify the additional two grand?
Thanks!

I would follow the auctions on ebay, search the ads using SearchTempest.com. Also keep an eye on the classifieds on here. I would place a WTB ad in the classifieds here as well.

Also, adding your location to either the ad or your profile will help anyone selling a Burgman assist you.

Thanks, I hadn't heard of SearchTempest.com before.
I did look up the Kelley Blue Book for a 2009 model and it says:

Retail Value: Excellent Condition $3,880
Trade-In Value: Good Condition $2,655
MSRP: $6,599

So $5,699 really is high.

Thanks for the suggestion. You're right - NADA is substantially different:

Low Retail $4,450
Average Retail $5,855

So I guess the dealer listing I saw is not so out of line.
I bought a brand new 2008 400 in 2010 for the dealer COST........!!!!!! $5,800 WITH a 2 year warantee to boot............ Keep looking!!!

A friend bought a '09 two years ago for $4,000 and it only had 400 miles on it and was in excellent condition. No dinks, scrapes or any other marks. The big difference was that it was a private sale, dealers seem to want too much profit or they allow too much for the bike on a trade, somehow I doubt that. Make the dealer an offer, a more reasonable amount and if he won't take it, just walk out. Also try cycletrader.com, set the radius of miles for the search and see what shows up. Good luck.

I found my 08 on Craigs List last fall as well as several others. SearchTempest.com didn't work well for me as many of the listings were old and some of the new listings were not on it. I started locally and went to nearby locations. I just did a search for Burgman at each location. I checked frequently because the good ones sometimes go quickly. The asking price is usually negotiable as they expect bargaining.

Right now SearchTempest is having issues, but I actually like the way it is now.

Also, check cycletrader.com It can be incorrect in several facets, but its still a tool for bikes/scooters.

Check craigslist also. I'm looking for 07 650 & finding them at $4500-$4800 around me.
07 & newer 400's are just about all the same when it comes to the major items. Figure out what you want to spend & then find the Burgman that meets that. For me that is $4500 so I'm looking at 07 & 08's 650's.

I picked up my '08 400 last January with 620 miles on it for $3200. The deals can be found if one is patient as I'm thinking a little later in the Spring you might find a few more on the market as people get the riding bug and think trade-up. Good Luck!
