Coming in a bit late for the front wobble - I bought a 2008 Burgman 400 (red!) about 6 months ago, horrible handlebar wobble if hands-off at speed. Changed the front tyre, as it was quite old even though it looked fine: wobble completely gone. And didn't even balance the wheel after installation.

Yes, I ordered 2 new city grip 2 tires, I have a balance stand so ill balance first but Im thinking if the bearings are good the wobble should all go away

Also, maybe I missed something in the manual, but what are the torque specs for the (10) 8m bolts that hold the CVT case?, not the outer, but the direct inner that covers it directly
Those are 6mm shank bolts, 7.5 ft/lbs, 90 in/lbs, 5.5 Nm max or approx. 1/8-1/4 turn snug Good-N-Tight 👌

BTW, sometimes headlights have "crazing" within the plastic itself, not just the coating, not really fixable/removable, you could polish outside to look better. I would remove the headlamp assy., and try polishing on the workbench, you may have to start with 400 sandpaper and work up to 2K, use a small rubber sanding block, etc. (not fingers 👎)and finish with polishing compounds, etc.
Or you could "Live Dangerously" and try bug repellent or WD-40 trick, or both 🙄😖🤞
Thanks man
Its only on one side the other is clean and it seems to be on the inside, I polished the outside to no avail, I saw mitchs video where he baked it, but IM not going that far,,,just yet
The city grip 2 tires came in today, they look really nice and are fresh with a 3822 date code, they look real sticky,,,,IM hoping Ill have time to get them off tommorw or the next day
then either way Ill balance them both to perfection and give it a run,,,,CG 2 tires have outstanding reviews
Then next order is push the bike OEM then tear into tranny and maybe go with 18 or 19g sliders
You think those sliders really make a difference on that 400?

MV can you be more specific?, more PSI rear and less front doesnt tell me anything,,,how much should you put in and what facts can you provide for your tire pressure recomendation?
There is little weight in the front, even on a Gen2, and a lot in the rear especially with your 190# expressed weight. The front tire is normal profile and 14", while the rear is low profile and only 13". The long term will likely require trying different pressures to affect ride/traction/and wear. Similar specs on my Gen1 yielded poor results and many odd worn tires. I have since settled on Pirellis (reinforced) at 26/36 solo (I'm 145lbs), and upsized fork cylinder holes (3 & 2 drill steps; it has to MOVE). The material and quality of local roads matter too. Socal are krap. Start w/spec then EXPERIMENT. Different tires often 'like' different pressure also.

Well put, the city grip 2 have max psi of both tires are 38, I do agree that you need to find the right PSI for any given tire, Im thinking go with 33/36 and see how that feels for starters,,,,,The issue with the D404 on my intruder left a sour note with me, that I was told by dunlop they wanted 40 in it, however, they could be full of it, the D404 is an average tire and could have wear issues, Ill see with these, as michelins are better quality than Dunlop IMO

Many have found that running the front tire on the lower side of spec causes tread cupping or chopping.

This is what I have seen with motorcycle tires, if you tend to run on the lower side you can get strange wear on it, I like to go on the higher side, I think it wears better and you get a faster smoother ride
On the VTX1300 I put the tires at 31/34 then to 33/38, I felt the difference in the latter being a better ride

Hi all
Just got a 2008 400 with 10800mi
I have a honda helix and 3 vtwin bikes and I do all the work on them, this is my first fuel injected bike
I like it so far, more like a cadallac, more motorcyle than scooter. Helix more scooter than motorcycle, very nimble and fast, I put it to 80mph no issues
I got it on the lift for first inspection, front tire is a michelin hoop, rear is a city grip, front has some dry rot, rear brand new, no leaks, oil good, filled tires up to 29 and 33psi
I put 40mi on it so far, here are my questions

I notice that the idle seems slightly erratic, but only slight, possible clogged injector or air filter?

If I take my hands off the wheel the bars will start to shutter, is this an issue with the front being out of balance or could this be some other issue?

I have not inspected the engine, variator or clutch yet, but it seems at low speed, especially on takeoff the rear will kind of shake a bit, clutch issue, belt?

When i give it a fistful, it seems to shutter on he back end then take off, not lightning fast, but seems like it could be, maybe a roller size issue?

IM 5'10" 190 the OEM windshield seems to let air hit me right in the face, should I go with the GIVI D311st?

Panels are intact and clean, but im kind of unhappy with the faded paint, it bugs me, anything I can do to restore or am I going to have to pull the panels and repaint?

I'll take any advice or tips you guys have about this bike, I really dig it thus far

ty all

I would recommend a mechanic sir if you have no mechanical abilities. There sounds like a lot of issues there for you. Good luck .

You have a 15 year old scooter w/ 11,000 miles. That's somewhere around 700 miles a year. If it were mine, I would do a full service including brake and coolant flushes, engine oil & filter, plug, air filter and CVT filter. I would drain the fuel tank and fill it up with ethanol free fuel and some good injector cleaner. Get it on the freeway and put 200 miles on her. Fill the tank, and repeat. Come back and tell us about the idle then. I'm similar size to you, and have put a little over 20,000 miles on my '08 in the last 6 years. I like the stock windshield. I think it is fine. I've had factory hand guards on mine the whole time. I want any windshield to come up to about my chin. It shoves the air over my helmet. If it's pouring I can duck behind it. I hate looking through a windscreen. Between my prescription glasses, and my helmet shield, that's enough. The two people I know who installed the Givi screen on a 400, ended up cutting a big chunk off the top for this very reason. Welcome to the forum. A bunch of good information here!

I have a 2008 burgman 400 with 59k miles & it still runs like a champ, I do all the services myself, brake, coolant flush, gear oil

Did you read any posts? I have 3 Vtwin motorcycles and 2 scooters that I do all the work on, full carb rebuilds, tires,,,,I have run into many issues that I have solved in the past and typically I solve any issue that I have come across,,,I have just been asking some basic questions about the Burgman 400, do you have anything to add or you just trolling a bit?
Maybe you should take the time out and read a bit before you post something that has absolutly no value

Don't be a wise guy pal.
. If you worked on them then you should know what's wrong.
Good luck in your ventures

HI guys, I just had a couple questions
I just got the city grip 2 tires on myself,,,Im doing right now 32/35 psi to see how they feel
In the photos I included, when I started the bike up there was smoke, when I looked further it was coming from the muffler juncture where it connects at the clamp, this clamp is a bit rusted as well as the bolt, I needed an extractor to get out, I hit it with PB blaster, but its still rusty, you think its just burning off the PB and the rust? After about 10min of running the smoke all stopped, but it was coming from that juncture exactly, could it be anything else?
Also something I noticed when the bike is on center stand the oil fill line is near F with the bike off, when the bike starts all the oil is not visible in the view windows, like its empy, is this normal or is all the oil circulating, then when bike cuts off its on F again?
TY guys

I would not go above 26psi on the front and 30 rear, solo. Too much pressure lowers the contact area and also makes the ride harsh. I had mistakenly set the rear to the top pillion passenger pressure, and when I found my mistake and corrected it the bike felt better to ride. I have a Dr Pulley clutch with the standard settings plus the 18g Dr Pulley variator weights and I like the lower speed at which the clutch locks up, better in traffic, and also the lower revs at high speeds. They suit my riding. The Dr Pulley clutch comes with several sets of springs which can you can use to customise the clutch characteristics.
The oil circulating when running the engine will lower the apparant oil level, wait 10 minutes after stopping the engine before adjusting the oil level.
