Hi Gang,
I just bought a 2005 400 Burgman. :) My last bike was a 1986 Suzuki Cavalcade (sold a month ago):(
I do my own maintenance, so am looking for advice::confused:
What type of oil filter do you recommend.
Is a K&N air filter worth the money?
What type oil goes in the final drive?
Where can I get a taller windshield?
What type of engine coolant do you recommend?
Anybody hook a radio up to the Burgman?
Where is a good place to get tires?
Where can I get a factory service book, and how much are they?
Does Clymer or Haynes sell a repair manual?
Those are all my questions for now.
I love this Burgman!!!

Hello. I had a 2005 burgman 400 for a little while. I liked the way it handled in the turns and it was still as roomy to sit on as my burg 650. Mine had 2600 miles on it when I bought it and was stored in a barn. It had a bit of a stumble between 2000 rpm and 3500 rpm. I looked at the air filter and discovered a mouse nest, cleaned that out and they had almost eaten a wire in half, fixed that but no improvement, changed the plug and what a difference it made. I cruised at 80 mph on that thing from indy to Lafayette many times.

What type oil goes in the final drive? regular Motor Oil 10w-40

What type of engine coolant do you recommend? I used prestone 50/50 premixed - it is ok with Aluminum radiators

Where can I get a factory service book, and how much are they?
I bought mine from OneideaSuzuki I prefer to by oem vs copied but they cost more

I use WIX 24949 oil filters. My local auto parts store carries them in stock. Unlike the OEM Suzuki filter they come complete with new o'rings. You have to order the o'rings separate with the OEM filter.

I'm running a Clearview windshield with a vent.

I usually buy my tires from either American Motorcycle Tires http://www.americanmototire.com/catalog/ or Motorcycle Super Store http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/

Welcome John.
As others have stated final drive takes the same oil as the engine. Brand is depending upon what ever you like, as we all have our own favorites. ;)
Motorcycle SuperStore is where I bought my tires as they have great deals + free shipping on any $ amount at times. Windshield again there are quite a few to pick from.

* I use the OEM filters - buy them off Ebay, but will consider the one mentioned above next time around.
* I have a K&N filter and like it - you hear the air intake - good sign
* I use synthetic in the final drive and dino in the engine - make sure you regularly check the engine oil as many <07 400s have oil issues - since I changed back to dino oil in the engine I use less - I may go to0 high mileage next (????)
* I have a GIVI windshield - pretty darn tall - Love it esp. in winter
* Prestone 50/50 that is rated for aluminum radiators/engines
* I had a Shark Audio system with an MP3 player that worked really well, but dismounted it - I ride with ear buds - I ran it through a seperate fuse box
* Motorcycle Superstore - Michelin Pure Power SCs - the best tire made for a Burgman and stickier than Gorilla Glue - Check Chaparrall Motorsports as from time to time they have some really good deals on tires.

For safety, add some driving lights (LED are very visible), a trunk with tail lights and of course a Wolo Bad Boy air horn (a MUST).
Be careful, be safe, and Enjoy Your New Ride! :D
