Just got through reading my own notes.
I have a magnetic oil drain plug on my 400, @ 15,000 miles there were still metal shavings on the magnet, @ 19000, very little, and 23,500 none.
So I guess my engine is through shedding ? :D

Or the metal shavings belong to a 'learning organisation' and found somewhere else to hide that they would not be disturbed from. :)

I know too silly - but it is late here!

Just a thought.
I stuck 3 large rare earth magnets on the bottom of my drain plug (to trigger left turn signals).
(It was tough trying to find a steel part down there, close to the ground)

Will this enhance it's metal filings "attractiveness"?

I would remove the magnets just before you take the plug out on each oil change. :)
