i'm getting some valvey diesely noise, loud enough for my deaf🐎 (not a horse) to hear. i am computer illiterate and do not have equipment to send recordings, so, that's out.
what are some signs symptoms that would indicate a valve problem? i already checked the polish adapter thingy bolt (technical terms provided by swmbo)
I can call, (phone will do that )if that would help'
she;s got 63 k miles on her and i'd love to get another 63 k

You can ride by my house and I can listen for the noise.

The 2015 should not have noises, none reported before.
  • If the Timing chain tensioner is worn it could sound loud.
  • Valves clearances too loose too.
  • Loose Primary Input bolt but you checked that.
  • Leak in exhaust system will sound like a knocking sound.

exhaust leak might be it. i looked for oil in tail pipe, it's dry black soot, (good to know next time i need to do some night time sneakin)
Has the valve clearance ever been checked...63k miles?

Im willing to help make you an expert. Do yours first, then I'll let you do mine. When your done, you will be an expert.

nope nor plugs changed or brake fluid (it's still clear) I did scrape some love bugs off a couple years ago

Doubt it’s excessive valve clearance. That would come on slowly over time and be a light ticking/clicking sound, not a all of a sudden “diesely noise”

Can you determine if it’s coming from the engine area, cvt area, or the exhaust?

Au contraire mon ami my mates TDM850 ran fine until the exhaust valve burnt out. Turns out the valve clearances had gone to below nil
Not enough info Mikey. It's broke don't mean much.

Read it again. I said Excessive clearance, not Inadequate clearance.

true, ima try to get more tomorrow, i think its noisy when it's "cold" is about my best clue so far

Sounds more and more like an exhaust leak.
Didn't you have an issue with the bolts for the pipes to the head a few years ago?
A long shot but check the hose that goes to the breather cover on the top of the valve cover. If that hose comes loose it can cause a dieseling noise.

Boy that would be nice and easy. Does that mean you won't be checking my valve clearance Mikey? 😁

I changed the oil this week , filter, stopper bolt, final drive and disposed of all refreshin beverages with an expirey date before 2099, so fluids are good, refilled all stocks of fluids just in case. So this morning I put in my hearing aids turned them up to the highest setting and was going to go check the bike,,,, got the walking farts on the way and the hearing aids made it sound like that time I got caught standing next to C-WIZ during a test fire aboard the Guadalcanal. Now I know the niose is maybe clutch maybe cvt, sounds like clutch on one side sounds like coming from cooling fan on the other, def not further forward than that area or back past the middle of the seat, I can fix clutch or cvt provided I can get parts, but I still wouldn't mind trading my honda for a 14 or up 650

Trade the Honda towards a Kymco AK 550 and rebuild the Burg this winter when it’s cooler.
