Just seen the news about Hurrican Frances which is currently projected on a path towards Florida.

Guess you Floridians are used to this sort of thing but I wish all our Floridian members good luck over the next few days.
:salute:

Indeed. First the Gulf side got hammered, now it looks as if the East side is gonna get tossed in about 36 hours.

Batten down the hatches and be safe, even if that means leaving your homes in the hands of God.

All the best from the left coast.

Peace.
My ex-wife moved to the east coast  :p
Did she get the car?

Yeah, but that was 11+ years ago!
yes well everyone here in south florida is under a panick.....i dont think i ever had to wait an hour in line at the gas station like i did yesterday, and forget about even trying to get in the door at home depot. the good news is everyone here hasnt forgotten andrew and we are all prepared this time around. everyone took it lightly in andrew but not this time. as for me with one marine battery about 40 AA batteries 26 D size batteries one car battery jumper pack, 12 different sources of lighting (5 flashlights) a battery powered tv, a couple fans with a 12 to 120 volt inverter a 55 gal cooler loaded with ice and about 20 gallons of drinking water along with 2 bath tubs filled, enough food for about 2 weeks, a gas grill with about 60 lbs of propane, my cage filled to the rim with gas and most importantly 30 reserve gallons of gas for my burgman  i think im prepared
Good luck in Florida, Last year when Juan hit us power was out 4 days, I usede an invertor from my boat and 12 v battry and that will run a deep freeze if you use them in Florida. Mine is 600 watt. It will also run sat dish and 20in colour tv Wayne
I am just off to watch the News on TV and see what the forecast and projected path is.

But I was just thinking that after these events PTWs are probably the best way of getting around for all sorts of reasons (picking yur way around unmoveable debris -trees etc) including eeking out personal gas supplies until the supply chain catches up.
Every place has something... here we have earthquakes. The latest "big one" back in '94 hit hard, and of course we get no warnings with earthquakes. At least with a Hurricane you know its coming. I'm wondering what's worse... not knowing you're going to be hit until it happens, or knowing you're going to be hit and caught up in a mass panic!

To thow a little humor on it... remember "Saturday Night Live" where Rosane Rosana Danna said "If its not one thing its another, always somethin'".
Chuck - thats a Lion!

That is either really impressive or you were uploading a new avatar while I posted.

Actually I'm still trying to "find myself"... the avatar will probably change again soon.....

Er - actually it's a lion.

Cheers,

I went through "Andrew" the second year a moved to Fl. How well I remember Home Depot looking like it was going out of business, no batteries , no ply wood ..Winn Dixie was out of everything. I went through that each year for 6 years --hurricane or not the news media wants something to report so there is always one coming !
I said enough after 6 years. I liked Ft.Lauderdale But.............
Best of luck, let's hope it makes a "U" turn.. :)
Thanks for the good wishes.

We here in Fl are getting ready for another serious storm only about a month after our last cat.4 hurricane. Frances looks like it just wants to swallow the whole state. Fortunately it has been down graded to a cat.3, but that can change quickly. Anyway, thanks for thinking of us. Hopefully it will be over soon and there will be a Daytona Beach left for Biketoberfest next month.

Ok, I didn't want NormanB to look bad since he's been so helpful on this board. Norman was right (at the time)... it was a tiger!! I changed it to a lion shortly afterward.
:D :D
I hear that Frances is running out of steam and has been downgraded a notch.

Yea that's better, ONLY 105 mph winds.
I'm sure that the potential for 20" of rain is another worry, even if the winds subside.
110 mph winds isn't exactly "running out of steam", but yes 110 vs. 150 makes a hell of a difference to a normal building structure. Trailer park type modulars are still gonna get shredded by anything above 100, as will conventional buildings with substandard roof structures. Speaking of roof srtuctures, 20" of rain could be very problematic for even the most stout if drains are plugged or underdesigned. Pray for the best.

Peace.
