So I got the spray can and the wipes.... How do I clean the Burgman with the LP.

Wax on wax off? Wash first then apply? How about the windshield?

Love the Pearl White Burgman, (Which I'm thinking of renaming the Buggman),
But it sure is a pain to keep clean!

Clean first. Then dry it completely. Apply LP lightly, wiping in small circles. Finish by buffing with a clean towel or cloth. Same is true for the windshield.

I clean mine with plain water to get the big stuff off but don't bother to dry it. Spray the LP on and use a Scott's blue shop towel to spread it around and clean the rest of the stuff off. I keep wiping with the blue shop towel until the LP is not visible anymore. I then let it sit for a minute or two and finish up by polishing with a clean dry micro fiber cloth. Procedure is the same for the bike and windshield.

If I'm out on the road I skip the water step and go straight to spraying the LP on a little heavy and spreading it around with the blue shop towel. Then buff with a micro fiber.

BTW don't use regular paper towels for this. They seem to put fine scratches into the windshield. These http://www.scottbrand.com/products/do-it-yourself/shop-towels don't do that.

I clean my windshield with warm water and dish soap. I use a soft paper towel and gently wash the windshield. After washing rinse off with water. I have no scratches on the 07 Burg windshield.

Do not use paper towels on the windshields. They are acrylic and you will create swirl marks. Use a microfiber cloth.

do not use windex or other ammonia based products either. My suggestion is Plexus available at most aviation sites like aircraftspruce.com

I have nothing against the Pledge. I just don't know what is in it other than wax. I at least know that the Plexus is made for aviation windshields and let me tell you those suckers are expensive when you have to replace them.

Using Pledge since the 70s

I have been using Pledge since the '70s with good results....especially when I am on the road.....even when I rode naked bikes, I used it on face shields.....at home, I like to spritz everything with hydrogen peroxide to eat up organic material, followed by Pledge or Plexus.....always works well for me.....Pledge also seems to do better at beading rain on the windscreen and face shield.....never had any ill effects...

I don't see much reason to use Pledge if you're going to wash it first. I spray Pledge on the bug spattered parts, let it soak a minute of so and wipe it off with a terry cloth towel. Works fine and I sometimes go for weeks without doing anything more and it stays clean. I don't let it go long enough to get a large amount of bugs on it. On my 1,200 ride a week or so ago, I cleaned the windshield two or three times.

I remember reading somewhere that if you are using a paper towel to clean your windshield that you may as well be using a tree. I used to use them all the time on my old bikes (you know the ones- with the light spider web etching all over the windscreens) but in the last 10 years nothing but old soft cloth diapers (running out of those fast) and microfiber cloths.

I have Plexus, Lemon Pledge and Original Bike Spirits Spray Cleaner and Polish. The Plexus is far more expensive than the others and while it might be slightly better than Pledge, it is not as good as the Bike Spirits product. I got the large size at my local UJM dealer for $5.99 and a friend picked up one at the BMW-RA Rally for six dollars and change. It is better than the others and it was formerly sold as a Honda and Harley branded product. Here is a review: http://www.cycleworld.com/2010/11/29/original-bike-spirits-spray-cleaner-polish-product-evaluation/

Their web page will tell you where you can buy it: http://www.originalbikespirits.com/ Many Advance Auto Parts sell it.

Thanks for all the info. Haven't washed the whole bike yet, but the LP did nice job on a quick windshield clean.
