I have a 1986 Honda Elite CH80 that will not start.

When I press the start button after applying the brake, the relay clicks but nothing happens. The starter is not engaging to turn the engine over. Periodically, when I click it, it will engage, but it is hit or miss.

The battery is not that old and is fully charged, so I don't know what the problem could be. Any ideas out there?

Thanks

First thing I would do is check all the starter wire circuit connections to ensure all off them are clean and tight. Never looked at an Elite but I would suspect the starter is fed by large wires running directly to the starter from the battery with the positive going through the relay. If you can hear the relay clicking but the starter is not functioning then it's one of three things. The wires that feed the starter are not carrying current to the starter, the relay is bad and not passing current through or the starter is bad.
