I have been thinking about a helmet cam... doing a search they mention the GoPro or ContourHD camera... nice but I do not want to spend that kind of money... Does any one have experience with the cams around 50-60 bucks... I know you get what you pay for but sometimes you find something decent for not a lot of money... I have also thought of getting a mount for my digital camera which also will take motion... I could mount it on the other brake res with a MML mount...
Any ideas???

The biggest issue with cheap cams is the image stabilization stinks. If you mount it to the bike the image will be effected by the vibration a lot. If you mount it to a helmet or chest mount your body will absorb the vibration and stabilize the video somewhat. Many of my kayak buddies use the Kodak Playsport for a cheap cam that can capture video or stills and have made some pretty nice videos. Good luck with your search and let us know what you get and how it performs.

To me, it really depends on what you want to camera for. I have been a motorvlogger on You Tube since 2007 and have used a few cameras to capture my vlogs. As of right now, I use 2 cameras. I have a small MD-80 clone camera ( Around 20 bucks on ebay ) what I call my J.I.C cam. ( Just In Case ) some butt wipe pulls out in front of me and if I can get a plate or just a extra witness if it gets to court.

Here is the vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFDT6wrImzE

WARNING !!! I say a bad word that rhymes with witch.

I ride with it everyday. If nothing happens, I erase the Mirco SD card, charge the camera and repeat.

If your looking for a camera to video your rides, I use the Vado HD 2nd Generation. I got a refurbished one for under $80.00 but that was 3 years ago. Here is a video how I mounted it in my helmet.

They are cheap on ebay but you need to use your own micro SD card. Most are under $40. I haven't used them. The only thing I can see a problem with is the thickness of the stems. They may not fit into the helmet or they may be uncomfortale. I am thinking of modifying an older helmet side cushions for them.

The wife gave me the green light on the newly released Sony action cam (link above) and it is on it's way.
I will get to play with it for a couple weeks before my next road trip.
Hopefully it will live up to my expectations.
It's not like me to buy a new unproven product so we will see.........
