they taught us in cpr class, first, determine if victim is conscious,,, so during an I.G. inspection one of the Marines in my unit was being tested on first aid/cpr he walked up to the dummy, kicked it in the ribs an said hey, you okay? He passed cause technically he did what he was supposed to, methodology was not gradable.
No one in that unit EVER lost consciousness after that

Wondering if anyone here has actually given CPR to someone in need ?
Over 10 years ago when my neighbor died in the back yard and his wife and I found him in the dark, his wife gave breaths while I did chest compressions. We had to continue till medics arrived but I knew he was past beyond our help as he was cold to my touch. It was found he had a ruptured wall in his heart and would have died even in hospital ER.

About 55 years ago while down at a river bend where all us kids swam in summertime, I was about 12 or 13 when a 7 year old went missing. I went out to some tree snags where he was last seen and found him trapped and lifeless. Got him up on one of the tree trunks and started compressions, as seen in movies, and he coughed up a lot of water. Afterwords he was awake but weak. No Cell phones back then but one adult had run to a house about 1/4 mile and called for aid. All in all it took 15 minutes from when I pulled him up till Fire Aid truck and ambulance got there. Never heard any outcome.

Being 1 for 2, Hope I never have to do a "Best two out of three".

In my 2015 Burgman crash I had 2 Cardaic Arrest events. One was when the State Trooper arrived and checked my pulse, I had none but my heart started back on its own before the ambulance arrived. Then I woke up and tried to stand up and he ran over and made me sit down. I did not know I had broke my left Femur among many other bones.
Second time was in ER and as the ER nurse was grabbing the paddles my heart went back to normal beating. The doctor said it was most likely the impact to the concrete barrier that caused commotio cordis condition. The chances of the heart stating back by its own is slim but does happen. My heart was bruised on the left side, I had broken all 9 left ribs, 6 in two places.
In this one case, CPR would have killed me as the broken ribs had already punctured my left lung and would have punctured my heart.

Just an update as I have not been on here of late and you might fear the worst.

I am fine now. Another bout of cardioversion and pulse steady at about 55 and BP a little high still but steady, arrhythmia seems to have cleared up but a check up due in a few weeks to make sure. Not to shabby for 77 and still blasting it 'down the middle'. that traffic is a bitch through Bannus.
